Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Wins 4-3 at No. 48 Alabama

Tereza Janatova Clinches Rebels’ Victory at No. 3 Singles
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 30 Ole Miss (7-5, 3-3 SEC) defeated No. 48 Alabama (9-7, 0-6 SEC) in a competitive match on Thursday.
Ole Miss improved to 3-2 on the road this season and has earned back-to-back victories versus ranked opponents (No. 19 LSU, March 5). The Rebels won their second match this season by the score of 4-3 in a winner-take-all scenario (Feb. 2 vs. Memphis).
Tied 3-3 overall, Tereza Janatova propelled the Rebels to victory by winning the decisive final match versus Alabama's Anna Parkhomenko. Janatova won the first set 6-1, followed by Parkhomenko claiming the second set 6-4. Janatova proceeded to win the final set 6-3 to give the Rebels the win. Janatova improved to 8-1 this dual season and improved her career winning percentage in duals to 79.6% (39 wins, 10 losses).
Sabina Machalova, Lillian Gabrielsen and Anna Vrbenska also earned victories for Ole Miss at Alabama. Machalova won first on Thursday, thrashing Alabama's Moka Ito 6-2, 6-0. Machalova improved to 13-5 (6-4 in duals) in singles this season. Machalova's victory tied the match at 1-1. Ole Miss exchanged matches back-and-forth with Alabama. Tiphanie Fiquet lost in straight sets at No. 1 singles to give the Crimson Tide a 2-1 lead. Gabrielsen tied the match at 2-2 by defeating Alabama's Sydney Riley in straight sets, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Vrbenska took the first match lead for Ole Miss, 3-2, by defeating Anna Parkhomenko in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Vrbenska earned career victory No. 75 in singles on Thursday. Alabama tied the match 3-3 by claiming Singles No. 5 in a close three set affair between Reka Zadori and Anne Marie Hiser.
The Rebels lost 2-0 in doubles to the Crimson Tide, falling at Doubles No. 2 and No. 3. Alabama led the match 1-0 after the doubles portion of the contest.
