Rebels Sweep Weekend Series in Alabama

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 30 Ole Miss (8-5, 4-3 SEC) swept No. 18 Auburn (10-3, 5-2 SEC) on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels swiftly defeated the Tigers in under two hours (1:59). Ole Miss defeated No. 48 Alabama on Thursday (March 11) in Tuscaloosa. The Rebels have earned three-consecutive ranked victories and have defeated two top-20 opponents in the last three matches (No. 19 LSU, March 5). Ole Miss has earned five of eight victories this season via sweeping their opponents.

"I am proud of the girls for going 3-0 on these last two road trips. Every team in the SEC is tough to beat, especially on the road," said Head Coach Mark Beyers.

Ole Miss got off to a blazing start by defeating Auburn 2-0 in doubles. The Rebels claimed the opening point in lopsided fashion by winning both No. 2 and No. 3 Doubles 6-0. Tereza Janatova and Anna Vrbenska won first, defeating Auburn's Carolyn Ansari and Anastasia Astakhova. Janatova earned her 50th career victory in doubles at Ole Miss. Tiphanie Fiquet and Lillian Gabrielsen clinched the opening decision point by beating Selin Ovunc and Yu Chen.

Ole Miss maintained its momentum from doubles, and won 3-0 in singles versus Auburn. The Rebels earned all three victories in straight sets. Gabrielsen, the only Rebel to earn victories in both singles and doubles, won first. Gabrielsen defeated Auburn's Anastasia Astakhova 6-4, 6-1. No. 39 Sabina Machalova won next, defeating Chen 6-2, 6-3. Machalova claimed her third straight victory. Reka Zadori clinched the match for Ole Miss by winning 6-4, 6-2 over Auburn's Adeline Flach at No. 5 Singles. Zadori earned her third dual victory, and clinched her first match versus an SEC opponent.
