Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 7 Florida

Nikola Slavic Earns Ranked Victory in Rebels’ 6-1 Loss
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 19 Ole Miss (5-6, 4-2 SEC) was defeated 6-1 by No. 7 Florida (11-1, 7-0 SEC) at home on Friday.
The Rebels fell to the Gators in a competitive match. In singles, the Ole Miss won one match and forced two matches to three sets. Every set in singles was decided by a score of 6-3 or closer.
Reigning SEC Newcomer of the Week Nikola Slavic won at No. 3 singles for the Rebels. Slavic defeated the Gators' No. 85 Andy Andrade in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Slavic collected his fifth ranked victory this season, and improved to 5-1 versus top-125 opponents. He has earned back-to-back ranked wins after defeating No. 33 Juan Carlos Aguilar last Sunday (March 7). Slavic has compiled his first three-match win streak of the season.
At No. 2 singles, No. 62 Tim Sandkaulen pushed Florida's No. 8 Sam Riffice to three sets. Sandkaulen dropped the third set 7-5 to Riffice. Sandkaulen had two match points up 5-4, 40-30 in the final set and was unable to close out a win.
Lukas Engelhardt won the first set over the Gators' Josh Gooder 6-4. Gooder proceeded to take the second and third sets 6-4, 6-3.
At No. 1 singles, Finn Reynolds tested No. 12 Duarte Vale in two close sets. After trailing 4-0 in the first set, Reynolds tied the set 4-all. Reynolds fell 7-6 (5), 6-4 to Vale in an emotional battle.
Ole Miss lost 2-0 in doubles to Florida losing at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Jakob Cadonau and Jan Soren Hain's match at No. 3 doubles went unfinished tied at 5-all.
