TULSA, Okla. – Ole Miss men's tennis hits the road to face Tulsa on Friday at 2 p.m. CT and Oklahoma State on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
No. 18 OLE MISS (5-7, 4-3 SEC)
The Rebels are set to compete in their first road match in the month of March. In March, the Rebels are 2-2, defeating both No. 38 LSU (March 5) and No. 11 Texas A&M (Mar. 7) and falling to No. 7 Florida (Mar. 12) and No. 14 South Carolina (Mar. 14). Finn Reynolds, Nikola Slavic and John Hallquist Lithén lead the team with seven singles victories each. Slavic earned his team-leading fifth ranked win of 2021 by defeating Florida's No. 85 Andy Andrade last Friday. In doubles, Jakob Cadonau and Jan Soren Hain have made a positive impact for the Rebels. The duo has a 2-0 record in three matches played since their insertion into the lineup (March 7) at No. 3 doubles. Their 6-3 victory over South Carolina's Raphael Lambling and Bruno Olivera clinched doubles for the Rebels over the Gamecocks.
Last Time Facing Tulsa
The Rebels last faced Tulsa in a dual match in 2008, winning 6-1. The Golden Hurricane were ranked No. 23 nationally.
Scouting the Golden Hurricane
Tulsa (9-6, 2-0 AAC) have won three of their last four matches, all versus ranked opponents. The Golden Hurricane won versus No. 22 Memphis, No. 44 Wichita State and No. 42 LSU, however they lost 4-1 to UTSA at home on March 12. The Golden Hurricane have been solid at home this season winning eight of 11 matches.
Tulsa features one ranked singles player, No. 67 Kody Pearson, and one ranked doubles pairing, No. 29 Connor Di Marco and Pearson.
Head Coach Vince Westbrook is in his 30th season with Tulsa and has a career record of 446-336.
Last Time Facing Oklahoma State
The Rebels defeated the Cowboys 4-2 last season in Oxford. Hain, Slavic and Simon Junk earned singles victories versus Oklahoma State. The Rebels swept the Cowboys in doubles with Reynolds/TimSandkaulen, Lukas Engelhard/Slavic, and Hain/Junk earning victories. Reynolds and Sandkaulen defeated the No. 1 ranked doubles team, Dominik Kellovsky and Matej Vocel. At No. 3 doubles, Ole Miss defeated Brady Draheim, as Draheim played for the Cowboys last season.
Scouting the Cowboys
Through 10 duals, top-25 ranked Oklahoma State has an overall record of 6-4. The Cowboys have competed in five matches in March, claiming victories in three (Omaha, Memphis and Oklahoma). In their last match, Oklahoma State fell 4-3 to No. 12 Texas A&M (March 16).
Oklahoma State features four ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. Vocel and Kellovsky opened the season ranked No. 3 in doubles, and in singles Vocel ranks No. 49 and Kellovsky ranks No. 61.
Next Up
Ole Miss will host rival Mississippi State at home Sunday March 28, at 1 p.m. C.T. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 20 in the nation.
