Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 36 Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – No. 18 Ole Miss (6-7, 4-3 SEC) earned a 4-3 victory at No. 36 Tulsa (9-7, 2-0 AAC) on Friday.

Ole Miss clinched the win at 4-2 over Tulsa. The Rebels earned their third victory this month (all versus ranked opponents).

How it Happened

Ole Miss claimed the momentum of the match early by taking the opening doubles point in dramatic fashion. The Rebels defeated the Golden Hurricane 2-1 in doubles. Brady Draheim and Simon Junk won first, defeating Tulsa's Stefan Hampe and Boriss Kamdem 6-3. Next, Jakob Cadonau and Jan Soren Hain came up short versus Tulsa's Ezequil Santalla and Daniel Sidall to tie doubles at one match each. No. 7 Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen clinched the opening decision point for Ole Miss by defeating No. 29 Connor Di Marco/Kody Person 7-6 (4). Reynolds and Sandkaulen improved to 2-1 versus ranked opponents this season.

Ole Miss and Tulsa split singles 3-3 on Friday as the opening point proved crucial to the Rebels' win.

Cadonau won first, defeating Tulsa's Kamdem 6-2, 6-2. Cadonau made his first start in singles since Ole Miss swept Arkansas 7-0 (Feb. 21). He improved to 2-3 this season (all at No. 6 Singles).

Seconds after Cadonau's victory, Sandkaulen extended the Rebels' lead to 3-0 by winning at No. 2 Singles. Sandkaulen defeated previous doubles opponent Di Marco 6-1, 6-3. Sandkaulen was the only Rebel to win in both singles and doubles versus the Golden Hurricane.

Tulsa proceeded to tighten the match by claiming victories at No. 5 and No. 4 singles. Ole Miss' lead was closed to 3-2.

Nikola Slavic clinched the win for the Rebels by winning at No. 3 Singles. He won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, over Santalla. Slavic has claimed victories in four of his last five matches.

Ole Miss and Tulsa played out the final match. Reynolds fell to No. 67 Pearson in two close sets including a 22 point second-set tiebreak. Ole Miss won by a final score of 4-3.

Ole Miss will next face No. 24 Oklahoma State on the road Sunday, March 21 at 12 p.m. CT.
