Rebels Open Ole Miss Classic Strong

Ole Miss Sweeps Hammer Throw With Two First-Place Finishes
OXFORD, Miss. – It's been 713 days since the Ole Miss track & field team competed on home soil and in response, came out swinging to open the 2021 Ole Miss Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Rebels claimed top prize in the men's and women's hammer throw, the lone event of day one. Joseph Benedetto started things off in style with his winning mark of 65.95m (216-04), passing Nathan Loe for No. 2 all-time in program history and finding himself No. 7 currently in the NCAA standings. Joseph Lanham finished just shy of a personal best with his finish of 55.30m (181-05).
On the women's side, all four Rebel competitors threw a personal best with Shey Taiwo and Jalani Davis going one-two in the final results. Taiwo finished with a best throw of 64.33m (211-01) that currently ranks No. 8 in NCAA standings while Davis wasn't too far behind with a throw of 63.54m (208-05). Jasmine Mitchell and Deborah Bulai each recorded a personal best as well.
The Ole Miss Classic continues Saturday, March 27 at 9 a.m. with men's javelin starting things off.
