Reka Zadori Wins Third Consecutive Match in Rebels’ 4-1 Loss

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 21 Ole Miss (8-7, 4-5 SEC) fell to No. 39 South Carolina (8-9, 5-5 SEC) at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Saturday.
 
The match was initially slated to started at 1 p.m. CT. The Rebels began play versus the Gamecocks at 2 p.m. CT due to an hour-long rain delay.
 
The Rebels started strong to open doubles competition. Through three games played, Ole Miss held a 3-0 lead at Doubles No. 1 and a 2-1 advantage at Doubles 2. At doubles No. 3, Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize fell behind to an early 3-0 deficit. Gabrielsen and Mize proceeded to fall to South Carolina's Ana Cruz and Allie Gretkowski, 6-1, to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 doubles lead. South Carolina's No. 1 Doubles, No. 15 Megan Davies and Mia Horvit, stormed back to defeat No. 59 Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova and win doubles for the Gamecocks, 2-0. Tereza Janatova and Anna Vrbenska had their match go unfinished down 5-4 on Court No. 2.
 
In singles, Ole Miss won one match, lost three matches and had two matches go unfinished. The Rebels fell behind 3-0 after the Gamecocks took No. 1 and No. 2 singles in straight sets.
 
Reka Zadori brought the Rebels within two by winning in straight sets at No. 5 Singles. Zadori defeated Gretkowski 7-5, 6-4, to tighten the match to 3-2 overall. Zadori achieved her first three-match collegiate win streak with her victory over Gretkowski.
 
The Rebels fell to South Carolina on the brink of a comeback attempt. South Carolina clinched the match by winning a competitive battle on Court No. 3. No. 80 Janatova lost the decisive second set tiebreaker, 7-4, in an attempt to force a third set versus Silvia Chinellato. At the time of the stoppage, the Rebels were pushing the Gamecocks in three set matches on Courts No. 4 and No. 6.

Ole Miss next travels to Starkville to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday, April 2. Mississippi State is currently ranked No. 36 in the nation.
