No. 15 LSU Squeeks Out 1-0 Win in Extras
BATON ROUGE, La. – Ole Miss (21-12, 5-5 SEC) and No. 15 LSU (21-11, 5-5 SEC) battled back and forth in a pitcher's duel at Tiger Park on Thursday night, with the Rebels falling 1-0 in eight innings.
Anna Borgen took the tough-luck loss, pitching 7.1 innings with one run allowed on nine hits.
After a couple of quiet innings in the early going, the Rebels began to put pressure on LSU starter Shelbi Sunseri and the Tiger defense. The Rebels were able to put at least two runners on in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but failed to break through as the game remained scoreless.
On the other side, Borgen and the defense kept working to keep the Rebels in it. With both pitchers throwing respective zeroes on the board through the regulation innings, the game extended into extra innings.
Unfortunately for Ole Miss, the Tigers were able to break through in the eighth. After loading the bases with no outs, Georgia Clark popped a ball into no man's land in the middle of the infield, falling in to bring home the winning run.
Quick Hits
• Ole Miss left 10 runners on base, stranding at least two in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
• Despite taking the loss, Anna Borgen recorded her fifth start of the season with at least seven innings of work and one or fewer runs allowed.
