Late Home Run Clinches Series for the Tigers
BATON ROUGE, La. – Ole Miss (21-13, 5-6 SEC) battled back but ultimately couldn't hold off No. 15 LSU (22-11, 6-5 SEC) as the Tigers clipped the Rebels 3-2 at Tiger Park on Friday.
Savannah Diederich was effective in a losing effort, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings of work, striking out four along the way.
With Ole Miss putting runners on but failing to bring them home in the early innings, it was the Tigers who broke through first. LSU took a 1-0 lead in the second on Raeleen Gutierrez's sacrifice fly, tacking on a second in the third behind Taylor Pleasants' RBI single to second.
Ole Miss battled back in the fourth, halving the deficit through a Paige Smith single up the middle to bring Jessica Puk home. Shortly after, Autumn Gillespie delivered a clutch two-out single to center, plating Tate Whitley to tie the game at two runs apiece.
The Tigers, however, would have the last word, leading off the sixth with a solo home run off the bat of Pleasants to reclaim the lead at 3-2. A Sydney Gutierrez double in the seventh gave the Rebels life but Ole Miss couldn't come through with the clutch hit.
Quick Hits
• Ole Miss left 10 runners on base for the second-straight game.
• Jessica Puk notched a pair of hits, marking the first multi-hit game for the senior since March 10 against South Alabama
