Borgen’s Gem Leads Softball to 2-1 Win at Texas A&M
4/16/2021 | Softball
Rebels Earn First Win Over Aggies Since 2005
BRYAN-COLLEGE-STATION, Texas – Ole Miss (27-14, 9-7 SEC) came out on top in a game one pitcher's duel at Davis Diamond, defeating Texas A&M (27-12, 5-8 SEC) 2-1 Friday night.
Anna Borgen pitched a gem to garner the win, scattering seven singles to allow one unearned run with four strikeouts. Savannah Diederich picked up her second save of the season, setting down the side 1-2-3 in the seventh.
The Rebels snagged an early lead in the second, cashing in on a Blaise Biringer double as Mikayla Allee wacked a two-out single to left, putting Ole Miss up 1-0.
The slim lead held all the way until the sixth inning. The Aggies took advantage of a leadoff error in the field, loading the bases with a pair of singles and tying the game on Kelly Martinez's infield single. However, Borgen got out of the jam with minimal damage, forcing a fly to right to leave the bags full.
Ole Miss would grab the lead right back, loading the bases in the seventh and bringing one run across in the form of Tate Whitley on Abbey Latham's hot shot to third base, beating out the infield single for the game-winning hit.
