Rebel Lineman Picked on Third Day of Draft
CLEVELAND – Another Rebel heard his name called Saturday during the 2021 National Football League Draft as Royce Newman was selected during the third day in Cleveland, Ohio.
Newman was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round with the 142nd overall pick.
Newman started all 10 games in 2020 at right tackle for the Rebels. The redshirt senior appeared in 43 career contests for Ole Miss, including 22 consecutive starts. Newman allowed just three sacks this past season in 847 pass blocks over the last two seasons.
The native of Nashville, Illinois, was part of an Ole Miss offense that ranked top 20 in the FBS in nine separate offensive categories last season, including No. 3 in total offense per game (555.5).
With two Ole Miss players selected in this year's NFL Draft (Elijah Moore, 34th pick), the Rebels have now had 302 players selected in a professional draft in program history.
Tight end Kenny Yeboah signed a undrafted free agent deal with the New York Jets, joining Rebel teammate Moore.
In his first and only season in a Rebel uniform, Yeboah finished 2020 second on the team in receptions (27) and receiving yards (524). He ranked No. 7 amongst FBS tight ends with six receiving touchdowns and his 244 yards after catch were the fifth-most this season by a tight end.
Yeboah had a career-night vs. No. 2 Alabama back in the fall. He caught all seven of his targets for a career-high 181 yards and two TDs. Yeboah's 181 receiving yards were the most yards ever by a Rebel tight end.
