Softball Exits Quickly from SEC Tournament

Ole Miss Topped 3-1 by Mississippi State in Opening Round
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss (34-20, 12-12 SEC) saw its run at the 2021 SEC Tournament come to a quick end on Wednesday, falling in the opening round to Mississippi State (33-22, 8-15 SEC) at Rhoads Stadium.
Anna Borgen received the loss, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in four innings. Savannah Diederich came on for three scoreless innings of relief, facing one over the minimum with just a walk allowed.
Things got off to a rocky start for the Rebs as Mississippi State immediately loaded the bases on three straight singles to lead off the game. Borgen and company were able to keep the damage to a minimum, though, allowing two runs on a walk and a ground out.
Mississippi State added a run on a solo home run from Carter Spexarth to make it 3-0, before Ole Miss answered with a run in the fourth. Sydney Gutierrez led off the inning with a double to left-center and Abbey Latham eventually came home on a sailed throw to the plate, cutting the deficit back to a pair.
Ole Miss put the tying run on second base with one out in the fifth but couldn't bring the run home as the Rebels' SEC Tournament run came to a quick end in Tuscaloosa.

The Rebels will turn their attention to the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled for Sunday, May 18 on ESPN.
