Rebels No. 1 Singles Player Sabina Machalova to Face Duke’s Drummy in First Round

ORLANDO, Fla. – Oracle/ITA No. 29 ranked Sabina Machalova is set to represent the Rebels in the NCAA Singles Championships at the USTA National Campus. Machalova takes on Duke's No. 19 Georgia Drummy in the first round at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday

No. 29 Sabina Machalova vs. No. 19 Georgia Drummy (Duke) – Sunday, May 23, 9 a.m. CT
 
Machalova is primed to make her NCAA Championships individual debut coming off of a First Team All-SEC season. The No. 29 Oracle/ITA ranked player peaked in the individual rankings at No. 16 this season (March 17). She earned eight singles wins during the dual season and compiled a 15-10 overall singles record in 2020-21. Machalova co-led the Rebels by earning three ranked victories, all of which were over top-50 opponents. Machalova has compiled a career record of 30-17 in non-dual matches and will look to make a run in the tournament.
 
Duke's Drummy competed in her first season for the Blue Devils after playing for Vanderbilt the prior two seasons. Drummy has compiled a 18-3 dual record this season competing at primarily No. 1 and No. 2 Singles. She is 7-1 versus ranked opponents this season and enters the tournament in a current eight-match win streak. Her highest ranked victory of the season came on April 23 as she defeated Virginia's No. 9 Natasha Subhash, 6-4, 6-1. Drummy was named to the All-ACC Second Team.
 
Machalova defeated Drummy in three sets in their prior matchup on April 7, 2019 at Vanderbilt. After dropping the first set 5-7, Machalova prevailed in the second set in the tiebreak and dominated the third, 6-1. Machalova was unranked at the time and Drummy had ranked No. 63 in the nation.
