Rebels Fall to Arizona in Regional Final

TUCSON, Ariz. – Ole Miss (36-22) led early but couldn't hold off the potent Arizona (39-13) offense as the Rebels' season came to an end in a 12-6 loss in the NCAA Tucson Regional at Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium on Sunday.

After Borgen stranded two runners in the top of the first, the Ole Miss offense heated up right away. After Blaise Biringer reached on an error, Autumn Gillespie doubled down the left line and Abbey Latham delivered a two-run single to to left to get the Rebels on the board first. A few batters later, Mikayla Allee found some grass with a blooper, plating two more runs to give the Rebs a 4-0 lead after one.

The Wildcats threatened again with a pair of runners on in the second and third but Borgen came up with the goods, getting out of danger in both frames. The Rebels then added to their lead in the home half of the third, scoring two on Tate Whitley's single to left with the bases loaded.

However, the Arizona offense would have its say, cutting the deficit in half in the fourth on a two-run home run from Malia Martinez and a Jessie Harper RBI single down the left line. Borgen, though, was able to settle down and get out of a bigger jam, leaving the bases loaded.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats could only be held at bay for so long, scoring eight runs in the fifth inning to fully capture momentum and take a 11-6 lead.

The Wildcats went on to add another run in the sixth and Ole Miss was unable to answer back, closing out a tremendous 2021 season.
