Rebels Held to Two Hits in 8-0 Defeat
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss (34-17, 12-10 SEC) fell behind early against No. 3 Alabama (40-7, 16-6) and couldn't climb out of the hole, falling 8-0 in five innings in game one of the series at Rhoads Stadium.
Starter Ava Tillmann took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits. Landyn Bruce pitched one-plus inning of relief, allowing one run on three hits, while fellow freshman Aynslie Furbush provided 0.1 innings with one hit allowed.
The Crimson Tide struck early, taking a 2-0 lead after the first on Savannah Woodard's two-run single to right field. However, Autumn Gillespie was able to catch Jenna Johnson rounding second too aggressively, throwing a pea to Mikayla Allee to apply the tag.
After a scoreless second, Alabama added on in the third. Kaylee Tow got things started with an RBI single through the left side, followed by a Johnson RBI groundout. Woodard then blooped a single into left, plating Tow. A few batters later, Maddie Morgan dropped a two-run single into right-center, putting Alabama up 7-0.
The Rebels threw up another zero in the fourth but couldn't hold off the tide in the fifth as Alabama loaded the bases and walked off with the win through Elissa Brown's single to center field.
