THE COURSE
The Honors Course will play from 7,400 yards as a par 72. The Honors is a hallowed hall for amateur golf hosting several top events such as the U.S. Amateur, two NCAA Championships along with several USGA and international events. It was built to honor amateur golf with no plans to ever host professional events. It is the third year (non-consecutive) the event is hosted at the Honors Course.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH MALLOY
"We are extremely excited to kick off our season," head coach Chris Malloy said. "The guys have worked extremely hard to prepare for this event and are ready to get back in action. The Honors Course is one of the best tests in all of college golf, so we will know where we stand right out of the gate. This group has a great mix of youth and experience, and I know that they will only get better throughout the year."
SUBER EARNS NO. 11 RANKINGS FOR PGA TOUR UNIVERSITY
As it was first announced by PGA TOUR University on Sept. 8, senior Jackson Suber found himself at No. 11 in the Velocity Global Ranking. He is one of just four SEC golfers to crack the top 15. Suber has now held the No. 11 ranking for the first two weeks of the rankings. At the conclusion of the seasons, the top five finishers will earn membership on the Korn Ferry Tour, while No. 6 to No. 15 will earn membership on a PGA TOUR international tour. Suber enters his senior campaign after earning PING All-American Honorable Mention and First Team All-SEC accolades a seasons ago. His 2020-21 season featured a pair of medalist honors, while leading the team with a 71.70 stroke average.
KYE MEEKS TO MAKE REBEL DEBUT
After being redshirted for the 2020-21 season, Kye Meeks kicked off this fall with impressive performances in the team's qualifiers leading up to the tournament. The Walnut, Mississippi, native won all four qualifiers to lock up his spot in the tournament lineup. His strong play from the summer, in which he won the prestigious Cotton States Invitational as well as another tournament at The Country Club of Oxford, carried into the fall. Meeks committed to Ole Miss as the No. 1 ranked golf recruit out of the state of Mississippi following two individual state championships with Walnut High School.
NEW REBEL, BUT A VETERAN
Evan Brown may be the newest Rebel, but he's one of the most experienced golfers on the team. After graduating from Loyola (Maryland), where he set numerous school records and became a PING All-American Honorable Mention, Brown transferred to Ole Miss for his final season of college golf. Over his career, Brown played in 28 tournaments for the Greyhounds. Last season, he produced a 70.90 stroke average to break his own school record. Making the starting five in his first tournament as a Rebel, Brown adds a veteran presence to the Ole Miss lineup.
THE MALLOY EFFECT
Now entering his eighth season at the helm of the Ole Miss men's golf program, head coach Chris Malloy is prepared to lead a promising roster into the 2021-22 season. Coming off of a season where Malloy led the Rebels to an appearance in the NCAA Stillwater Regional, as well as coaching an All-American in Jackson Suber for the third time in his tenure as head coach for the team, Malloy is looking to carry that momentum into a new year. As the Rebels' head coach, Malloy has coached the team to six team tournament victories alongside 16 individual tournament titles being won under his guidance, two of which came last season.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Ole Miss will be competing in the Scenic City Invitational for the second time in school history. In 2006, the Rebels finished sixth with a team score of 912 (294-305-313).
FALL SLATE
The Scenic City Invitational marks the first of four tournaments that the Rebels will take part in this fall. Next up, Ole Miss will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 4-6) on GOLF Channel. The Rebels will then head south to Birmingham, Alabama to take part in the SEC Match Play Championship (Oct. 10-12), before wrapping up their fall campaign in The Bahamas for the White Sands Bahamas Invitational (Oct. 29-31).
