Cross Country Returns to Action at Virginia’s Panorama Farms Invite
10/14/2022 | Cross Country
Men’s 8K at 9 a.m. CT, Women’s 5K at 10 a.m. CT
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country will hit the course for the first time in three weeks when it runs at Virginia's Panorama Farms XC23 Invitational on Saturday morning.
Both Rebel units are receiving votes in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, and will be among 10 total teams either ranked or receiving votes across both men's and women's competition. Ole Miss' last outing came at Oklahoma State's Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 24, with both Rebel squads posting top-15 team finishes in a high-powered national caliber field.
The Ole Miss men will start things off in the men's 8K race at 9 a.m. CT. The Rebels have been led by senior transfer Anthony Camerieri throughout each of their last two meets at the SEC Preview and the Cowboy Jamboree, with Camerieri winning the individual title at the SEC Preview and finishing 61st overall amidst a stacked field at Oklahoma State. Camerieri currently ranks third in the SEC through 8K with his SEC Preview winning time of 24:02.40 back on Sept. 16.
Fellow senior Chris Maxon will also be back in competition for the Rebel men on Saturday, who is alongside Camerieri in the SEC top-10 at the moment in seventh at his 24:07.60 from the SEC Preview. Other Rebel men in competition tomorrow include Shane Bracken, Aiden Britt, Cole Bullock, Dereck Elkins, Dalton Hengst, Chase Rose and Gabe Scales, as well as the season debut for track All-Americans Tiarnan Crorken and Baylor Franklin.
The Ole Miss women will follow in the women's 5K race at 10 a.m. CT. Senior Ryann Helmers has been the pacesetter for the Rebel women through their last two meets as well, winning the SEC Preview (and SEC Women's Co-Runner of the Week) at her SEC-leading 6K time of 20:29.20 before notching a 25th-place finish at Oklahoma State. Helmers was a Second-Team All-SEC member last season after finishing 14th overall at the conference meet.
Much of the Rebel women's roster has yet to run a 5K yet this season, but others ranking in the conference top-10 in the 6K alongside Helmers include Loral Winn (second, 20:29.30), Jocelyn Long (sixth, 20:44.80), Hannah Ielfield (eighth, 20:51.70) and Sophie Baumann (20:54.00) – all of whom are in competition again this Saturday. Other Rebel women running tomorrow include Beth Arentz, Skylar Boogerd, Madison Hulsey, Frances Luna, Sarah Schiffmann, Laura Taborda and Kristel van den Berg.
