Rebels Face Off With Murray State and UT Martin
MURRAY, Ky. – Ole Miss rifle looks to bounce back this weekend with a pair of matches against Murray State and UT Martin on October 15 and 16.
The Rebels opened their 2022 campaign a week ago, dropping a tough match against West Virginia. Ole Miss turned in a team score of 4696, led by senior Kristen Derting with an 1178. She and junior Lea Horvath were the only two Rebels to place inside the top 10.
Freshmen Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira had a strong showing in their first collegiate match. Hays turned in the top smallbore score on the day for Ole Miss with a 585. As a team, the Rebels rank fifth nationally with a 2326.0 smallbore average and sixth in air rifle with a 2370.0.
Murray State boasts a 3-1 record on the season. Through four matches, the Racers are averaging a 4669.0 aggregate score as a team. UT Martin comes into Sunday's match looking for its first victory of the season. The Skyhawks dropped their season opener last weekend, 4659-4602, to Morehead State.
Last season, the Rebels defeated Murray State on the road in the second match of the season. They'll look to repeat that outcome on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. CT. Ole Miss will then face off against UT Martin the following morning in a neutral site match.
