Postgame Quotes vs. LSU

LSU 45, Ole Miss 20

OLE MISS HEAD COACH LANE KIFFIN
Opening Statement…
"It was a game of missed opportunities, we came out and started well. We did some good things in a tough place to play against elite players, so if you are going to come in here and win against these guys, you're going to have to do a lot of things right. We did early and then it just felt like it was 24-20 and we were going in to score and after that pick everything just went downhill on both sides. Now we've got to regroup, handle a loss like a lot of teams in the country. There's not a lot of time to sit around and mope, we've got to go play another elite group of players next week in another hard place to play. Give them credit, those guys played really well. Their quarterback (Jayden Daniels) played great; they have really good players like No. 40 (Harold Perkins) who played some good time. Can't come in and lose a turnover battle and give up 35 first downs in a game."

On LSU's adjustments after falling down 17-3...
"I think they did a really good job; I don't think it was a lot of schematics. They started playing No. 40 (Harold Perkins) more which we thought they would eventually do. Once you get behind on them the rushers are going to rush, we got one of them off sided there."

On the defense...
"It was a lot of things; missed tackles, got pushed around, we had some injuries out there during the game. Had a couple starters come out of the game which obviously doesn't help. Those guys did a really good job, and we didn't do a lot right defensively. That was not a good feeling at the end of the game obviously."

 OLE MISS QUARTERBACK JAXSON DART

On what made them slow down as an offense...
"I do not think we executed as well as we did in the first half. We shot ourselves in the foot and had some costly errors, such as penalties and things like that. All of those are things we can control, so I think that was probably the biggest thing."

On Harold Perkins impact late in the game...
"I noticed him on film, he was the best linebacker in the country out of high school, so he is very talented. They set him up as a spy and a rusher and he made some big plays."

 OLE MISS SAFETY TYSHEEM JOHNSON

On if tackling is an issue for Ole Miss defensive struggles...
"That is a part of it. We obviously have to do a better job tackling, but overall, as a defense we need to be better at everything, we just got to do better."

What did LSU do differently when they got hot...
"They made some adjustments to what we were doing. Basically, they hit some plays, and they made more plays than we did."

 LSU HEAD COACH BRIAN KELLY
Opening Statement...
"Exciting day in Tiger Stadium. Our guys wanted this opportunity; they saw this as a privilege to play in this stadium and really wanted this opportunity. Obviously, the last three quarters, played great football. At the end of the day, when you have a top team coming in, that's why you come to LSU. Our best players played their best, and we needed that. Our defense played great in the second half against a very potent offense. As our guys got their cleats in the ground, they played much better. Their eye discipline was great in the second half. Holding them to under 120 yards is a great feat for any defense going against Ole Miss. The quarterback was excellent again, back-to-back weeks leading the offense. He was the catalyst for us making quick decisions. He was assertive and aggressive. The offensive line was outstanding and put the game away at the end. We got stronger; we exerted our will against our opponent, which is a part of what we're building here. We want a dominant mindset against our group. Come the second half, we want to run the ball effectively and control our opponent and move them against its will. Great victory, excited for our guys. We got some time off, which we need. We'll get a chance to get on the road recruiting and get ready for our next opponent."

On Jayden Daniels' run game and decision-making...
"The structure of their defense is a three down with six defensive backs. When they chose to keep them back in coverage, he was in zone read, game option where he could throw it or run it. He was on his game tonight. When he had three deep safeties, he was reading it out and keeping it. When the safeties were down, the ball was coming out on RPOs. He was really good tonight of reading it out."

On the value of getting a top-ten win at home in his first year...
"I think that's probably the furthest thing from my mind. I'm so excited for our players. I've used this analogy before – they "jumped in 100 percent" with a whole new way of doing things for me. I'm just so pleased that they're seeing the positive results because of it. I think that's what I'm most excited about."

 LSU QUARTERBACK JAYDEN DANIELS

On the success of him and the team the past two weeks...
"We have found our rhythm. The biggest thing in the offensive unit is trust, and we all trust each other. I am going to give them the ball where they can go out there and make a play and they trust me to put it in the right spot."

On his run game tonight and settling into LSU's offensive scheme...
"We practiced hard, a lot of preparation throughout the week. Coach Kelly has been coaching me hard so that on Saturdays we can go out there and just play football. I am going to take what the defense gives us, and the safeties were worried about our game. If the defensive ends want to squeeze down, I am going to pull the ball and get as many yards as I can."

On the growth between him and Brian Kelly...
"Coach Kelly recruited me here, it's a bit of a process developing, but I appreciate how he coaches me throughout the week. Like I said, we go out there and he coaches me hard, and I am very coachable so that is the biggest thing for me. They trust me and they want me to trust myself and go out there and just play football."

 LSU LINEBACKER MICAH BASKERVILLE

On the interception...
"Man, it was really a run defense. I was just like regardless of it being a pass or run, I'm going. If it's a pass, I have to make a play and get to the quarterback. That's what was going through my mind."

On discussing turning the tide of the game...
"Yeah, it was talked about on the sideline. We were like 'man, we're gonna make a big play.' We were hoping to score on defense, but we were like we were gonna get one of these balls."

 LSU RUNNING BACK JOSH WILLIAMS

On his play these last few games...
"Just following the process that Coach Kelly has for us. He says you got to work hard in practice and do extra stuff and that's what I have been doing. I'm just sticking to it."

On improving blocking...
"We have been very focused on the blocking. Trying to give Jayden more time in the pocket so he can make those deep throws and make those comeback routes. Of course, we've been focusing on that"

 LSU OFFENSIVE LINEMAN WILL CAMPBELL

On the team breaking out these last few weeks ...
"We're just trusting each other more. Just going out there and doing the same thing we do at practice every day and bringing that here.

On today's gameplan ...
"We knew that they ran a three man front and they're bringing everybody they can. We knew our communication had to be top notch this and it was good. We were able to give Jayden some time and just let him do what he does and that's make plays."
