Rebel Men Record Seventh-Straight Top-25 National Team Finish

STILLWATER, Okla. – Ole Miss cross country wrapped up a successful 2022 campaign at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, held at Oklahoma State on Saturday morning.

The No. 29 Rebel men continued their strong finish, taking 24th place in the 10K team standings to chart Ole Miss' seventh consecutive top-25 national finish in men's competition. On the women's side, senior Ryann Helmers represented Ole Miss in the championship 6K race, finishing 88th overall as just the second Rebel woman to ever qualify for nationals as an individual. No. 1 NC State repeated as the NCAA women's champions, while No. 2 Northern Arizona won its third men's title in a row and sixth in the last seven years following a narrow tiebreaker victory over host No. 4 Oklahoma State.

Senior Anthony Camerieri led an Ole Miss men's squad that registered a 1:02.3 scoring spread to break the formchart and move into the top-25 with that 24th place team finish. Camerieri finished 55th overall at a 10K time of 29:49.3, his sixth consecutive race as the top Rebel across the line. Camerieri concludes his one season of cross country eligibility with Ole Miss with a First-Team All-SEC honor as well as an NCAA All-South Region award.

The other four scoring Rebels all crossed relatively close to each other among the large, talented NCAA field: Dereck Elkins in 127th place (30:26.1), Cole Bullock in 166th (30:45.5), Chris Maxon in 177th (30:48.2) and Aiden Britt in 180th (30:51.5; PR). Other Rebel men running on Saturday were Shane Bracken in 219th place (31:24.9) and Dalton Hengst in 245th place (32:11.8).

Helmers started off the day for Ole Miss with her 88th-place individual finish in the women's 6K race, crossing the line at 20:31.8. The senior native of Sanderson, Texas has been the leader for the Ole Miss women all season long, ending the year with an average finishing place of 23.2.

Today caps an excellent cross country season for Helmers, who earned Second-Team All-SEC and NCAA All-South Region honors along the way. She also clocked the fastest 6K time in recorded Ole Miss women's history, a 19:37.2 at the SEC Championships on Oct. 28. She then followed that up with another sub-20 the following meet, a 19:57.9 at the NCAA South Regional on Nov. 11, to become the first known Rebel woman to record multiple sub-20 times.

With cross country now in the rearview, the focus turns to the 2023 indoor track & field season, which is slated to begin for the Rebels this coming January.
