OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis (3-1 0-0 SEC) faces Texas Tech (4-1, 0-0 Big 12) on the road in a non-conference dual at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.
Ole Miss faces Texas Tech in a non-conference dual at the McLeod Tennis Center. The Rebels have won the last three contests versus the Red Raiders dating back to 2014. The two teams last squared-off in 2020 as the Rebels earned a dramatic 4-3 victory at home.
Rested Rebels
The Rebels return after two weeks off having last competed in Atlanta for ITA Kickoff Weekend (Jan. 29-30). The Rebels are coming off their first loss of the season, a 4-3 defeat to Old Dominion in the Georgia Tech Kickoff Regional. The Rebels earned their first ranked win of the season in Atlanta, defeating No. 14 Michigan 4-1 in the opening round. Ole Miss is set to compete in its first true road contest of the 2022 season in Lubbock.
Four Down and More to Go
After starting the season 3-1, the Rebels carry momentum into Lubbock and in the national polls. Ole Miss has received votes in the ITA National Team Rankings and ranks No. 22 in the USTA/Tennis Channel poll (supplemental to the ITA rankings).
The Rebels will have four more non-conference matches (including at Texas Tech) prior to entering the SEC in-season schedule. Ole Miss will take on all 13 opposing SEC programs starting the weekend of March 4. Women's tennis SEC matches are scheduled for Friday's and Sunday's in 2022.
Scouting the Red Raiders
Texas Tech has won four out of five matches to begin its 2022 spring campaign including a 7-0 sweep versus Houston on Saturday. Texas Tech also reached an ITA Kickoff Regional Final, falling to No. 13 Texas A&M, 4-0, in Bryan-College Station.
The Red Raiders are led in singles by ITA No. 17 Margarita Skriabina and No. 44 Avelina Safetdinova.
Soon to Palmer/Salloum
Looking ahead, the Rebels return home to compete in three duals next weekend. Ole Miss faces Tennessee State in a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 25. The Rebels then host Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday, Feb. 27 at noon CT. Weather dependent, the Rebels may play their first outdoor match of the season.
