Rifle Fires Strong 4719 In NCAA Qualifier

Rebels Honor Senior Class
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 5 Ole Miss rifle honored its senior class Saturday afternoon, posting a strong 4719 aggregate score in its NCAA Qualifier.
The eight teams that will advance to the NCAA Rifle Championships in March are decided this weekend. Selections are determined by the three-score average and the score fired in the team's qualifier match. Ole Miss hopes to have solidified its spot with a 9446.33 average total. The field of eight will be revealed Tuesday, February 22, at 2 p.m. CT by the NCAA.
Each of the top six performers in the match were Rebels, with Lea Horvath pacing the field with an 1184. Abby Buesseler and Claire O'Neel followed with identical scores of 1179. Kristen Derting posted a strong 1175 to place fourth, and Jillian Zakrzeski and M'Leah Lambdin rounded out the top six with scores of 1174, a new career-best for the freshman.
Ole Miss turned in a team score of 2340 in smallbore. Horvath used a perfect 200 prone to guide her to a 588. Buesseler and O'Neel matched each other with 585s, and Derting capped off the scoring with a 582. Not factoring into the scoring was Lambdin, who tied her career-high with a 583.
In air rifle, the Rebels were dominant, posting a 2379. Horvath once again fired the top mark with a 596, and Zakrzeski finished one point behind her with a 595. Buesseler and O'Neel continued to match scores, tallying 594s to contribute to the team score. Freshman Katelyn Tinsley posted a career-high 588, although her score didn't factor in the team mark.
For seniors Abby Buesseler, Megan Taylor, Erin Walsh and Jillian Zakrzeski, it marked their final collegiate match at home.
The Rebels are back in action next weekend at the GARC Championship in West Point, New York.
