Men’s Tennis Victorious in Top-15 Match Versus Texas A&M

Rebels Defeat Aggies 4-2 in Non-Conference ITA Nationals Consolation Dual
SEATTLE – No. 15 Ole Miss men's tennis (10-3, 0-0 SEC) ended its ITA Indoor National Championships tournament with a signature victory in consolation. The Rebels defeated the No. 14 seed, ITA No. 12 Texas A&M (6-3, 0-0 SEC) in a non-conference dual at the Seattle Tennis Club on Sunday.
Despite dropping the doubles point for the first time this weekend, Ole Miss prevailed past Texas A&M through strong singles play. The Rebels continue to play tough in matches versus ranked opponents earning its second ranked win on the year. The Rebels have now faced five top-25 teams (four in the top-12) in 2022.
The Aggies opened the match by taking the doubles point. Texas A&M defeated Ole Miss first at No. 2 doubles. The Rebels then leveled doubles by taking the No. 1 position, 7-5. Lukas Engelhardt and Finn Reynolds defeated No. 33 Austin Abbrat and Noah Schachter to earn their third-straight ranked win. Texas A&M then clinched the doubles point by taking Court No. 3, 7-5.
In singles, the Aggies extended their lead to two by claiming the first match in straight-sets at No. 2 doubles. The Rebels then reversed course to win four in a row.
Simon Junk put the Rebels on the board first, earning a 6-2, 6-3 win versus Luke Casper. No. 18 Nikola Slavic leveled the match at two by winning 6-2, 7-6 (4) at No. 1 singles. Jakob Cadonau gave the Rebels their first lead by defeating Mathis Bondaz 6-3, 7-6 (4). John Hallquist Lithén clinched the match for Ole Miss by defeating No. 80 Matthis Ross in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Lithén's fourth ranked victory on the year sealed a 4-2 victory for the Rebels versus the No. 12 Aggies. The Rebels earned their second straight victory over Texas A&M.
Engelhardt's match at No. 4 singles went unfinished in the beginning of the third set.
Up Next: The Rebels open SEC season versus Tennessee at home on March 6. The Volunteers are the No. 2 ranked team in the country.
