OXFORD, Miss. – No. 14 Ole Miss men's tennis (10-3, 0-0 SEC) welcomes No. 2 Tennessee (13-2, 1-0 SEC) to Oxford for a top-15 SEC dual at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday. The Rebels face their third top-five and fifth top-12 opponent of the season.
Ole Miss returns to the court after last competing on Feb. 20 in Seattle. The Rebels return home for the first time in four weeks since taking on North Alabama in a double header on Feb. 11. The Rebels are 9-0 in home dual matches in 2022.
Back Outside
The Rebels are set to compete outdoors at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center for the first time this season (weather permitting). Attendance is free to the public.
Sunday's match will also be Outer Banks Day themed on the popular TV show. There will be a bandana giveaway available upon gated entry to the stadium at noon CT.
Remembering '21
The Rebels and Volunteers met three times last season, competing at ITA Kickoff Weekend, in the SEC regular season and at the SEC Championships. Tennessee won all three contests, 4-2, 7-0 and 4-1.
Ole Miss and Tennessee are set to compete in Oxford for the first time since 2019.
Revisiting Preseason Predictions
The Rebels were picked to finish seventh this season in the SEC conference by the league's coaches. The Volunteers were picked to finish second, behind defending SEC and National Champion Florida. The SEC Coaches' Preseason Poll was released on Jan. 13.
Scouting the Vols
No. 2 Tennessee defeated No. 24 Mississippi State 5-2 in Starkville on Friday prior to facing the Rebels on Sunday. The Volunteers defeated Furman, 5-2, in their last match on March 1. Tennessee has earned five top-15 wins this season, defeating No. 5 TCU (Jan. 16), No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 13 South Carolina and No. 3 Baylor. The Volunteers fell to the Horned Frogs, 4-1, in the ITA National Indoor Team Championships Finals on Feb. 21.
Tennessee features four ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams. Johannus Monday leads the Volunteers at No. 6 in the ITA Singles rankings and is followed by No. 32 Adam Walton, No. 51 Emile Hudd and No. 103 Mark Wallner. Hudd and Shunsuke Mitsui rank No. 9 in the country in doubles and Walton and Pat Harper rank No. 57. Harper and Walton won the 2021 NCAA Doubles Championship.
Up Next
The Rebels head on the road next weekend to play at Alabama on March 11 and at LSU on March 13.
