No. 16 Men’s Golf Set to Battle in Difficult Cabo Collegiate

Three-Day Tournament Features Nine Teams Ranked in Golfstat’s Top 25
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The No. 16 Ole Miss men's golf team is going international for its second straight tournament to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to take part in the annual Cabo Collegiate Invitational Feb. 27-Mar. 1.
Featuring a stacked field with nine of the 15 teams in attendance holding Golfstat Top 25 rankings, the three-day tournament is set to take place at the scenic Cove Club Golf Course at Cabo Del Sol.

-- Finished the SEC Match Play Championship with a 3-1 record individually, including a victory over then-No. 11 ranked Tyler Johnson of Tennessee
-- Ended Puerto Rico Classic with a career-low round of 69 (-3) on the day
-- Ranked as the No. 1 recruit coming out of the state of Mississippi in 2020
-- Two-time individual state champion in high school

The Course
Playing at 6,807 yards as a par 71, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Cove Club Golf Course (formerly the Ocean Course) has set the bar for the Los Cabos golf experience since opening for play in 1994. Stretching for more than a mile along the Sea of Cortéz, the Cove Club Golf Course features four unforgettable ocean-front holes perched above roaring waves of the Pacific.
Ole Miss Maintains Top 25 Status
Following a sixth place finish as a team at the Puerto Rico Classic where the Rebels tied a program record for lowest tournament score set at the 1982 Mississippi Intercollegiate with a final tournament score of 828 (-36). With the finish the Rebels saw themselves remain in the top 25 in both the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin NCAA Team Rankings. Now holding a Golfstat team ranking of No. 16 in the nation and a ranking of No. 22 in the NCAA by Golfweek, the Rebels will clash with a total of 10 other Golfstat Top 50 teams in the Cabo Collegiate, eight of which sit in Golfstat's Top 25 Rankings as well.
Rebels in the Rankings
Jumping up after a stellar week in Puerto Rico, sophomore Brett Schell currently leads the way for the Rebels by holding the No. 16 spot in the latest Golfstat NCAA Player Rankings. Not far behind Schell is senior Jackson Suber, who is ranked No. 19 by Golfstat, while also holding the No. 26 ranking in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. Schell comes in ranked No. 50 by Golfweek/Sagarin.
Suber to Make PGA TOUR Debut
Rebel senior Jackson Suber is set to take part in his PGA TOUR debut later in March, after the Tampa, Florida, native received a sponsor's exemption for the 2022 Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida. The tournament, which is scheduled to run March 17-20, will mark the first time a Rebel has appeared in since November 2021, when Braden Thornberry took part in the first two rounds of the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.
Career Week for Schell in Puerto Rico
Sophomore Brett Schell capped off a red-hot week in Puerto Rico by earning multiple career-bests in his performance, including his first ever collegiate top 5 finish by finishing tied for fourth overall. Additionally, Schell logged a new career-low round of 66 (-6) on day two, followed by yet another career-low round of 65 (-7) on day three to finish with a career-low 54-hole total of 201 (-15) on the week. Schell's score of 201 ranks as the third-lowest three-round score in program history.
PGA TOUR University Rankings for the Rebels
In the latest PGA TOUR University Velocity Global Rankings, Jackson Suber slotted into No. 9 in the nation following his tournament in Puerto Rico. Further down the board for the Rebels is Evan Brown, who ranks No. 59 after missing the team's spring season-opener due to injury. At the conclusion of the season, the top five finishers in the Velocity Global Rankings will earn membership on the Korn Ferry Tour. Players finishing sixth through 15th will earn membership on a PGA TOUR international tour.
Next on Tee
Following the team's trip to Mexico for the Cabo Collegiate, the Rebels will return to the States to take part in the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana. The two-day invitational is set to take place Mar. 14-15 at the Oakbourne Country Club.
