Women’s Tennis Defeats LSU 4-1 to Earn First SEC Win

Kareisová Defeats No. 89 Babic in Straight Sets

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 52 Ole Miss Women's Tennis (7-4, 1-2 SEC) earned a 4-1 victory versus LSU (1-7, 0-3 SEC) in the Rebels' first outdoor match at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Friday.

Ole Miss returned to the win column with a sound 4-1 win against LSU. The Rebels earned their fourth victory in the last five matches versus the Tigers dating back to 2017.

The Rebels started off ahead in doubles, taking Court No. 3. Lillian Gabrielsen and Ludmila Kareisová improved to 3-0 in SEC play by defeating Nina Geissler and Mia Rabinowitz, 6-3, to give the Rebels a 1-0 doubles advantage. LSU tied doubles, 1-1, by taking No. 2 Doubles 6-3. Ole Miss led 5-2 at No. 1 Doubles, however Sabina Machalova and Rachel Krzyzak were unable to hold on, falling to Safiya Carrington and Taylor Bridges 7-5. The Tigers took the doubles point.

Ole Miss fueled a competitive-doubles defeat into four-straight singles wins. LSU defaulted the No. 6 Singles position to tie the match back up. Kareisová then gave the Rebels a 2-1 lead, defeating No. 89 Babic 6-1, 6-4. Kareisová, a freshman, earned the first ranked win of her collegiate career. Fellow freshman Rachel Kryzak defeated Mia Rabinowitz in straight sets minutes later to give the Rebels a 3-1 advantage. Ranked freshman Leclercq-Ficher, No. 110 in the ITA Singles Rankings, pulled-off a 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory against Geissler to clinch the win for the Rebels.

The match was halted at the time of the Rebels sealing the victory. No. 79 Machalova was one game away from victory and Reka Zadori was tied 4-4, down one set, at the time of the stoppage.

Up Next: The Rebels will compete in the second match of a weekend home stand versus No. 11 Texas A&M on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The dual match will be played outdoors at Palmer/Salloum (weather permitting). Sunday's match will feature a TV sweepstake and a blanket giveaway for fans in attendance.
