No. 44 Rebels Unable to Win on the Road
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 44 Ole Miss Women's Tennis (8-7, 2-5 SEC) lost 7-0 at No. 16 Florida (13-4, 5-2 SEC) on Friday.
The Gators had their way at Linder Stadium versus the Rebels, sweeping both singles and doubles without losing any sets. The 8-7 Rebels fall to 0-4 on the road this season.
Ole Miss put up a good fight in doubles, pushing the No. 16 Gators in all three matches. On Court No. 1, Sabina Machalova and Rachel Krzyzak fell 6-4. Then, on Court No. 3, Ludmila Kareisová and Lillian Gabrielsen lost 7-5. Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Kelsey Mize stood toe-to-toe with No. 18 Bente Spee, tied 5-5 at the time of the doubles stoppage due to Florida clinching the opening point, 2-0. Leclercq-Ficher was back in the doubles lineup after missing the Rebels' previous match versus Auburn on March 20. The Gators took a 1-0 lead.
Florida earned a wire-to-wire victory, winning all six singles matches. The Rebels won at least three games in seven of twelve singles sets. The Gators earned their fourth-straight SEC win.
Up Next: The No. 44 Rebels travel to Columbia to face No. 42 in an open-paper grudge match at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday.
