No. 46 Rebels Fall 7-0 to No. 36 Bulldogs
ATHENS, Ga. – No. 46 Ole Miss Women's Tennis (6-3, 0-1 SEC) was swept, 7-0, by No. 36 Georgia (4-2, 0-0 SEC) on Friday afternoon.
The Rebels faced a tough task versus a Georgia Bulldogs team featuring five singles players ranked in the ITA individual rankings. Ole Miss and Georgia were extremely competitive in doubles; however, the Bulldogs proved to be too much in singles competition taking all but one set in the second portion of competition.
Ole Miss challenged Georgia wire-to-wire in doubles. Georgia took the lead in the doubles portion, claiming the No. 2 Doubles, 6-3. Lillian Gabrielsen and Ludmila Kareisová then leveled doubles, 1-1, by defeating Meg Kowalski and Mai Nirundorn, 7-5. Gabrielsen and Kareisová both improved their doubles win streaks to four consecutive dual matches. Sabina Machalova and Rachel Krzyzak held match point and decision point tied 40-40 and up 5-4 on serve. The Bulldogs fended-off the Rebels, forced a tiebreak at 6-6, and took the clinching tiebreaker 7-5 to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.
The Bulldogs fully carried the momentum into singles play, winning on all six courts. No. 105 Sabina Machalova took the first set, 6-3, over No. 42 Lea Ma, but ultimately dropped the second and third sets 1-6, 5-7. No other Rebel won a set in singles on Friday.
