Reed’s School Record Leads Rebels at Day One of Tom Jones Memorial

Lyndsey Reed Broke Her Own Pole Vault Record at 4.41m/14-05.50

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ole Miss track & field junior Lyndsey Reed once again established herself as the best women's pole vaulter in school history to lead an impressive first day of action for the Rebels at Florida's Tom Jones Memorial on Friday.

Reed, who has smashed both the indoor and outdoor Ole Miss records numerous times this season, tied her overall career best from the indoor season at her winning clearance tonight of 4.41m/14-05.50. That height is a two-inch improvement over her previous outdoor record of 4.36m/14-03.50 from the Ole Miss Classic on March 26, and it matches her indoor school record set at the Arkansas Qualifier on Feb. 18. Reed also took three attempts at a further two inches on her record at 4.46m/14-07.50.

That winning mark of 4.41m/14-05.50 puts her in a tie for sixth in the NCAA this season, as well as No. 4 in the East Region and No. 2 on the SEC leaderboard. Additionally, Reed's height tonight puts her at No. 10 in the United States this outdoor season.

Also competing on Friday were Samara McConnell in a tie for sixth at 4.06m/13-03.75, as well as Elizabeth Nix, who cleared an outdoor PR of 3.91m/12-10 (No. 10 in Ole Miss history).

Senior and reigning SEC discus champ Tedreauna Britt continued a consistently strong start to her outdoor season on Friday, finishing fifth in the discus at a four-foot season best of 54.11m/177-06 – which falls within two feet of her career best of 54.51m/178-10 from last season. Her toss today puts her No. 21 in the NCAA, No. 8 in the East Region and No. 2 in the SEC.

Fellow senior Elijah Dryer had a spectacular day in the 200-meter dash, becoming the fastest Rebel in the event in nearly a decade following a blazing race. Dryer dropped two tenths off his PR to finish sixth overall at a wind-legal 20.66 (+0.8), which puts him into a tie with Olympian Savante' Stringfellow for fifth all-time at Ole Miss outdoors. Additionally, Dryer is also now the fastest Rebel in the 200-meter outdoors since Olympian Isiah Young set the outdoor school record at a windy but NCAA allowable 20.12 (+3.2) at the 2013 NCAA Championships. This season, Dryer now ranks No. 31 in the NCAA and No. 19 in the East Region.

Ole Miss also received another strong outing from senior Kristel van den Berg, this week in the 1500-meter. She led all Rebels in fourth place amidst a competitive field, clocking in at a four-second PR of 4:18.45. That time pushes her to No. 3 in Ole Miss history, and this year it ranks No. 37 in the NCAA and No. 19 in the East Region. Others recording solid times were Loral Winn in sixth at a season-best 4:19.64 (No. 28 East), Lydia van Dijk in seventh at an Ole Miss best 4:20.38 (No. 7 Ole Miss history, No. 37 East) and Morgan Claire Rose in 11th at a PR of 4:29.81.

Other Rebels with notable performances on Friday included Olivia Womack in the 200-meter dash at a PR of 23.50 (-0.2) – the eighth-best time in Ole Miss history – and Ukurugenzi Kojo in the high jump, where he finished fourth after tying his PR height of 2.05m/6-08.75 (No. 12 Ole Miss history).

Competition resumes for Ole Miss on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. CT with the women's hammer. A live stream will be available via SEC Network+ beginning at noon CT.
