Suber Continues to Pace Rebels, Sits Tied for 16th at One-Under on the Week

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Gaining ground on day two of the SEC Championship, men's golf wrapped up its second round at Sea Island Golf Club, shooting a 284 (+4) to move up into 13th place on the team leaderboard.

Anchored by the play of Jackson Suber, the Rebels were able to leapfrog the Alabama Crimson Tide to sit 13th headed into Friday's final day of stroke play. The Rebels are looking to make a late push in order to earn one of the coveted top eight spots to punch their ticket to Saturday's quarterfinals.

Only the top eight finishing teams will qualify for the match play portion of the tournament on Saturday, with seeding reflecting the top eight standings at the conclusion of Friday's final round of stroke play.

"Today was a step in the right direction, but certainly not what we were looking for," said head coach Chris Malloy. "Again, we were still too sloppy around the greens and it really killed any momentum that we could have had. We are going to continue to work on tightening up our games and be ready for a big final round tomorrow."

Suber continued to lead the way for the Rebels in Georgia, following up his 69 (-1) from a day prior with an even 70 (E) to sit tied for 16th overall. Suber enters day three of stroke play looking to earn the highest SEC Championship finish of his Rebel career, which currently is held by his 20th place finish in the 2021 SEC Championship.

Finishing just one stroke over par with a 71 (+1) on the day, Sarut Vongchaisit bounced back from his opening round of 76 (+6) at Sea Island to now sit tied for 58th overall headed into the final round of stroke play. Redshirt-freshman Kye Meeks also sits tied for 58th for the Rebels, as Meeks round of 73 (+3) on the day saw the freshman draw even with Vongchaisit.

Evan Brown was able to notch a round of 70 (E) as well for Ole Miss, with three birdies on his day helping the graduate transfer bump himself up into a tie for 62nd overall. Brown's Rebel teammate Brett Schell would round out the day for the squad by carding a round of 76 (+6) on the day, settling into 67th.

The Vanderbilt Commodores remained atop the team leaderboard following day two after logging a score of 274 (-6) on the day, moving the team to 13-under on the week.

Ole Miss will tee off for the final round of stroke play in St. Simons Island Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. CT, with the Rebels teeing off of Hole 10 at Sea Island Golf Club.
