Davis Ranks No. 6 in the United States, No. 5 in the NCAA in the Shot Put
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field junior Jalani Davis has been named the SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Davis won the shot put last week at Alabama's Crimson Tide Invite at a one-foot outdoor PR and an overall career-best toss of 17.73m/58-2, beating Olympian Portious Warren of Trinidad & Tobago by nearly 1.5 feet. With that winning throw, Davis became the third 58-footer in Ole Miss history outdoors behind Olympian Raven Saunders (2017, 19.76m/64-10) and Janeah Stewart (2018, 18.03m/59-2). It was Davis' second career 58-foot throw after tossing 17.69m/58-0.5 indoors to win the 2022 SEC Indoor title.
This season, that 17.73m/58-2 throw ranks No. 18 in the world, No. 6 in the United States, No. 5 in the NCAA, No. 2 in the East Region and No. 1 in the SEC. Last season, Davis was the only thrower in the nation of either gender to have tripled at the NCAA Outdoor meet, and indoors earlier this year she was again the only thrower on either side to double in the shot put and weight throw.
