Kristel van den Berg Steeplechase PR Leads Rebels on Day One

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Ole Miss track & field completed a brief first day of action at the 126th running of the historic Penn Relays on Thursday night.

Senior Kristel van den Berg led the day for the Rebels with a career performance in the college women's 3000-meter steeplechase championship, finishing third overall at a two-second PR of 10:05.75. That time is the third consecutive PR that van den Berg has run in the steeplechase dating back to last summer, and all-time it ranks No. 9 in Netherlands history and improves upon her slot already in No. 3 in Ole Miss history. This season, that time moves her up to No. 23 in the NCAA, No. 9 in the East and No. 4 in the SEC.

Morgan Claire Rose also ran in the women's steeple on Thursday, finishing 12th overall at 10:28.88.

Ole Miss received two additional PRs on Thursday, with Chase Rose moving up to No. 11 in school history in the college men's 3000-meter steeplechase championship at 9:14.80, and Nick Moulai clocking a 16-second outdoor PR at 14:23.44 to finish 44th in the college men's 5K championship.

Other Rebels in competition on Thursday were Lydia van Dijk in the college women's 1500-meter championship (24th, 4:29.96) and Cate Tracht in the college women's 5K championship (35th, 16:59.61).

Competition resumes for Ole Miss at Penn Relays on Friday at 12:45 p.m. CT with the Championship of America races in both the men's and women's distance medley relay. The Rebels will also run in a trio of races Friday night in Starkville at the Maroon and White Invite beginning at 5:40 p.m. CT.
