OXFORD, Miss. – No. 35 Ole Miss men's tennis (12-10, 2-7 SEC) returns to the road for the second straight Sunday to compete at No. 24 Texas A&M (19-10, 6-3 SEC) at 1 p.m. CT tomorrow.
Ole Miss men's tennis looks to win two in a row after defeating No. 35 Mississippi State in Starkville, 5-2, last Sunday (April 3). The Rebels look to improve upon their 2-4 record away from Oxford (9-4 at home). Ole Miss is set to face its eighth straight SEC opponent ranked within the ITA top-50.
One Down, One to Go
The Rebels defeated Texas A&M in their previous matchup this season, 4-2. No. 15 Ole Miss faced a No. 12 ranked Aggies squad in a neutral-court contest in Seattle as part of the ITA National Indoor Team Championships. The Rebels were able to win the match despite losing the doubles point. Nikola Slavic, Simon Junk and Jakob Cadonau earned straight-set singles wins. John Hallquist Lithén clinched the match by earning a ranked win over No. 89 Matthis Ross at No. 3 Singles.
Up by Eight
Ole Miss made the joint-largest improvement in team ranking this week, propelling from No. 43 to No. 35 in the country.
The Rebels placed one singles player and one doubles team in the top-35 of the individual rankings. Slavic ranks No. 32 in the nation and Lukas Engelhardt and Finn Reynolds rank No. 17 in doubles.
Closing Down the Campaign
Only three SEC matches remain for the Rebels prior to the SEC Tournament. The Rebels have won two matches in conference play and have Texas A&M, Arkansas (April 15) and Vanderbilt (April 17) remaining on their regular season schedule.
Tuning in to Bryan-College Station
Texas A&M split their previous two matches last weekend, winning 5-2 at Alabama, and falling 4-2 at Auburn. The Aggies picked up their highest-ranked win of the season two weeks ago, defeating No. 8 Georgia, 4-3, at home on March 27. The Aggies swept LSU on the road, 7-0, on Friday.
The Aggies feature two ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams. They are led by No. 80 Noah Schachter and No. 104 Guido Marson in singles. Schachter ranks No. 60 in doubles alongside Austin Abbrat and No. 61 in doubles when paired with Kenner Taylor.
