THE COURSE
Designed by legendary course architect, Tom Fazio, exclusively for guests of Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, Fallen Oak raises the bar for luxury resort golf. The 18 hole, par-72 championship layout unfolds in a majestic, almost cinematic, invitation to all who love the game. From the tips, Fallen Oak plays to almost 7,500 yards, thanks mainly to a collection of long, strong par fives – the 15th is over 600 yards. The course held the inaugural Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic on the Champions Tour in 2010 and is hailed by Golf Digest as the best course in the state from 2015 to present.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH MALLOY
"We're excited to get this last tournament of the fall started down here at Fallen Oak in our home state. We're one of three hosts of this tournament. The golf course is spectacular. It's a championship test. It will be hard. The course is in perfect condition, so really as a coach at this time of the year, you're looking to see your guys get exposed a little bit and get challenged. We need to figure out what we need to get better at going into the off season."
MISSISSIPPI MADE
Redshirt-junior Kye Meeks is making his lineup debut this week as he earned the No. 5 spot to compete in his home state. A Walnut, Mississippi, native, the in-state Rebel will appear for his 21st career tournament in the Red and Blue. Meeks competed as an individual in the opening tournament this season at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate where he posted a 71.67 stoke average. Meeks has had success under Mississippi soil as he earned career-bests last season at the Mossy Oak Collegiate in West Point, Mississippi where he shot low-18 (67) and low-54 (210) scores.
SUCCESS WITH LA SASSO
The NC State transfer, Michael La Sasso, has been a big addition for the Rebels in the past two tournaments. Leading the team with a 67.67 stroke average, La Sasso has earned the No. 1 spot in the lineup for all three fall tournaments and has placed as Ole Miss' best individual for all tournaments so far this season. Averaging 5.33 birdies per round, the Raleigh, North Carolina, native has posted five out of six rounds below par and finished in the top-12 the past two tournaments.
REBELS HOPING TO HIT THE JACKPOT
With recent in-season rankings coming out, Ole Miss has been highly noticed by GolfWeek rankings as the No. 3 team in the nation. Going up against ranked SEC foes No. 1 Auburn and No. 10 Mississippi State, the Rebels look to accept the challenge down on the coast and come out successful. In the past two tournaments, Ole Miss has had a minimum of three Rebels place inside the top-20 with sophomores Tom Fischer, Michael La Sasso and Cameron Tankersley earning back-to-back top-20 finishes.
NEXT ON THE TEE
Ole Miss will go into its off-season after its three-tournament fall slate. The Rebels will pick back up in the spring at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 11-13) in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Grand Reserve Golf Club.
