Men’s Golf with Successful Day Two at Puerto Rico Classic

Tankersley and Townsend Both Sit Tied for 9th at 5-Under Overall
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Ole Miss men's golf wrapped up its second day of competition at the Grand Reserve Golf Club with an impressive 280 (-8) round score. The Rebels now sit in tied for 5th place with an 11-under overall score.
Cameron Tankersley and Hugo Townsend led the charge for Round 2, as both Rebels shot stellar rounds to combine to a 7-under score. Tankersley went bogey-free for 17 holes while making five birdies throughout the day to end with a 68 (-4) round score. Townsend shot an even back-nine but came through in the front nine to make a 69 (-3) score. Both players now look to the final round to capitalize on their tied for 9th placement at 5-under overall.
Overall, Ole Miss put together the third-best round of the day out of the 13 teams in the competition. The Rebels lead the field in birdies (38) and are second in par-5 scoring (-20).
"I was really impressed with our round," head coach Chris Malloy said. "Each guy had it rolling at some point and really hung in there. We need to eliminate a few bad decisions and we should have a chance to win this tournament tomorrow. I look forward to seeing how these guys respond."
Brett Schell had another steady round as he carded three birdies throughout his play. He sits tied for 26th at 2-under overall heading into the final round at the Grand Reserve.
Sarut Vongchaisit battled back and forth in his second-round performance with three birdies to finish even for the day. Patton Samuels followed close behind with a 1-over round score. Both Rebels sit tied for 50th at 2-over in the competition.
Competing individually, Kye Meeks tallied three birdies in his round, but was unable to capitalize on his momentum to end the day at 1-over with a 3-over overall score.
Ole Miss will tee off in its final round from Puerto Rico on Tuesday, beginning at 6:30 a.m. CT beginning with a shotgun start and will be paired with Georgia and South Carolina.
