Rebel Women Move Up Three Spots in National Rankings
NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss women's track & field moved up three spots to No. 14 in the Week Four USTFCCCA Rating Index released on Monday.
Overall, this is the 47th ranking for the Rebel women since their first in 2008. Of 91 all-time combined indoor rankings among the men's and women's teams, eighth-year head coach Connie Price-Smith has claimed 58 total appearances indoors (39 women, 19 men).
Ole Miss is still paced by the powerful one-two punch in the weight throw of NCAA leader Jalani Davis (24.13m/79-2; 23.35 points) and current NCAA No. 2 Jasmine Mitchell (24.06m/78-11.25; 21.20 points). The senior duo also both rank in the shot put, with Davis ranking No. 8 at her latest season-best of 17.58m/57-08.25 (8.66 points), and Mitchell at No. 12 at 17.42m/57-2 (4.39 points). Davis and Mitchell are the only throwers in the NCAA this year both beyond 17 meters in the shot put and 24 meters in the weight throw.
Other Rebel women ranking are McKenzie Long in both the 60-meter dash (7.27; No. 24, 0.30 points) and 200-meter dash (23.29; No. 26, 0.18 points), and Loral Winn in the mile at 4:36.07 (No. 36, 0.04 points).
The Rebel men, meanwhile, fell four spots to No. 27 despite a solid weekend of action. On the men's side, Ole Miss is still led by a strong combination of star freshman thrower Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan and the Rebel distance crew.
Robinson-O'Hagan currently accounts for 24.14 of the 36.94 total points that Ole Miss is accumulating in Week Four thanks to his school records in the weight throw (23.05m/75-07.50; No. 3 NCAA, 18.69 points) and shot put (19.73m/64-08.75; No. 11 NCAA, 5.45 points). At both of those distances, Robinson-O'Hagan is the lone thrower on the planet this season to throw 64 feet in the shot and 75 feet in the weight throw.
All-American senior Baylor Franklin also holds a top-10 NCAA mark in the 800-meter, currently ranking third at his season-opening time 1:46.74 (10.99 points) from Jan. 21.
Other Rebel men ranking are Tiarnan Crorken in the 800-meter (1:47.39; No. 19, 1.24 points), Anthony Camerieri in the mile (3:56.90; No. 27, 0.34 points), Shane Bracken in the mile (3:57.07; No. 32, 0.21 points) and Logan Kelley in the pole vault (5.32m/17-05.50; No. 33, 0.02 points).
The USTFCCCA's National Rating Index is a computer rating system that uses an algorithm that emphasizes individual performances, assigning a point value to each individual mark that contributes to a team total to assess its national ranking.
Ole Miss will send a distance medley relay squad to Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational this Saturday (Feb. 18) in hopes of clocking an NCAA qualifying time. The rest of the Rebel track & field team will take this week off to rest up for the SEC Indoor Championships, set for Feb. 24-25 at Arkansas.
