AUBURN, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field will quickly turn the page on a successful indoor campaign to the beginning of the 2023 outdoor season this weekend at Auburn's Tiger Track Classic. Competition will run March 17-18.

MEET NOTES

• Ole Miss is coming off another superb indoor season that saw both Rebel squads finish within the top-15 nationally at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Ole Miss women finished 10th overall, their second-best finish ever indoors and their second-straight top-10 finish for the first time in program history. The Rebel men finished tied for 12th, their third-straight top-15 team finish that also marks a record streak in the combined history of the men's and women's programs at Ole Miss -- indoors or outdoors.

• Ole Miss was one of just eight schools nationwide this year to place both its men's and women's teams within the top-15 at the indoor national meet, and in the last two years, Ole Miss stands as one of just three schools to place both programs within the top-15 nationally alongside Arkansas and Texas.

• Four of the seven all-time NCAA top-10 finishes in Ole Miss history have come within the last two calendar years: 2023 women's indoor (10th), 2022 women's indoor (T-6th), 2022 men's indoor (T-10th), 2021 men's indoor (10th), 2013 men's outdoor (8th), 2001 men's indoor (10th) and 1991 men's indoor (9th).

• Ole Miss won its 22nd NCAA individual title at the indoor national meet last week courtesy of senior Jalani Davis in the women's weight throw, the second straight win for the Rebel women in the weight. During the indoor season, Davis became the first woman in world history to break 80 feet in the weight and 60 feet in the shot.

• The Rebel men also received an NCAA runner-up performance from their distance medley relay squad of Shane Bracken, Cade Flatt, Tiarnan Crorken and Anthony Camerieri -- who finished off the furious Rebel comeback with a thrilling anchor mile leg.

• The Rebel women also notched a program record tie for fourth place at the SEC Indoor Championships.

• Ole Miss is coming off another excellent outdoor season last year in 2022, which included an NCAA title performance from current professional runners Sintayehu Vissa (women's 1500-meter) and an NCAA runner-up honor from Mario Garcia Romo (men's 1500-meter).

• Aside from those two and Kelly Rowe -- who ran anchor on the Rebel women's 4x100-meter relay -- Ole Miss returns the remainder of its NCAA squad from 2022: Ariyonna Augustine (women's 4x100-meter relay, 12th), Cole Bullock (men's 5K, 23rd), Jalani Davis (women's hammer, 6th), Jayda Eckford (women's 4x100-meter relay, 12th), Baylor Franklin (men's 800-meter, 13th), Jasmine Mitchell (women's hammer, 18th; women's shot put, 22nd), Daniel Viveros (men's shot put, 17th) and Olivia Womack (women's 4x100-meter relay, 12th).

• In total from 2022 outdoors, Ole Miss returns five First or Second-Team All-Americans, eight NCAA qualifiers, 25 NCAA East Region qualifiers, and three SEC medalists: Tedreauna Britt (silver) and Jalani Davis (bronze) in the women's discus, and Skylar Boogerd (silver) in the women's 10K.

• A major plot point for the Rebel women this outdoor season will be the return of NCAA Champion and multiple-time All-American Shey Taiwo for her final season of eligibility. Taiwo -- who won the 2022 NCAA Indoor weight throw title and was the 2021 NCAA Outdoor runner-up in the hammer -- missed the 2022 outdoor season due to injury and was granted a waiver for one final campaign in 2023. Taiwo enters 2023 still ranked No. 10 in collegiate history at her 2021 runner-up performance of 71.27m/233-10. Taiwo is scheduled to open in both the hammer and discus at Auburn this week.

• Ole Miss welcomed in a powerful class of newcomers, with a total of 35 new Rebels joining the roster for the 2023 season. Of those 35, a total of 14 came from the transfer portal, with 11 women's freshmen and 10 men's freshmen rounding out the newcomers.

• Transferring to Ole Miss this season are: hurdler Jerricka Ambus (Hinds CC), distance runner Beth Arentz (Akron), distance runner Anthony Camerieri (Miami (OH)), pole vaulter Raylynn Gibbs (Southern Arkansas), javelin thrower Abigail Green (Western Kentucky), jumper Christian Hill (Memphis), jumper Kayla Jemison (Hinds CC), sprinter Deshaun Jones (Baylor), distance runner Jocelyn Long (Notre Dame), sprinter McKenzie Long (NC State), pole vaulter Noah Mumme (South Alabama), jumper Gavin Nembhard (Columbus State), hurdler Jaiden Paris (Michigan State), and sprinter Keith Robinson (ULM).

• Rebel women freshmen this year are: distance runner Sophie Baumann (Burgdorf, Switzerland), thrower Brooke Franke (Roggen, Colorado), thrower Emma Freeman (Lake Charles, Louisiana), multi athlete Laurel Fulcher (Madison, Mississippi), pole vaulter Kathryn Hosp (Collierville, Tennessee), distance runner Jenna Kirby (Flower Mound, Texas), distance runner Frances Luna (O'Fallon, Missouri), sprinter Gabrielle Matthews (Portmore, Jamaica), distance runner Samantha Ouellette (Murfreesboro, Tennessee), distance runner Sarah Schiffmann (Gloucester, Australia) and sprinter Graycyn Yelverton (Biloxi, Mississippi).

• Men's freshmen this year include: multi athlete Mason Collins (Knoxville, Tennessee), distance runner Cade Flatt (Benton, Kentucky), pole vaulter Logan Kelley (Mesa, Arizona), distance runner Landen McNair (Bartlett, Tennessee), javelin thrower Jake Railey (Surprise, Arizona), thrower Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan (Woonsocket, Rhode Island), jumper Arvesta Troupe (Fulton, Mississippi), distance runner Carson Turner (Signal Mountain, Tennessee), jumper Carson Walls (Dallas, Texas) and thrower Keegan Wilfawn (Oxford, Mississippi).

• In Ole Miss history across both seasons, 25 Rebels have won NCAA titles and 207 have earned First-Team All-American honors, while as a team Ole Miss has tallied 35 top-25 team finishes and scored 751.5 total national points.

• On the track under eighth-year head coach Connie Price-Smith, the Rebels have collected 12 NCAA top-25 team finishes, 11 NCAA individual champions, 12 NCAA runners-up, 143 First or Second-Team All-Americans, 271 NCAA points, 64 SEC individual champions and a bevy of the best team finishes in program history at both the SEC and NCAA levels.
