Brett Schell Named Co-SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week

Recognition Comes Following Medalist Honors at All-American Intercollegiate Individual
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss men's golfer Brett Schell was recognized as the Co-SEC Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
The honor follows the junior's 1st place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate Individual Tournament where Schell earned his first career individual tournament title with an overall score of 207 (-9). Schell led the 33-player field in par-4 scoring (-2) and was second in the field in par-5 scoring (-7). The St. Augustine, Florida native chipped in 13 birdies on the Golf Club of Houston Members Course.
Schell had a standout second round, going bogey-free for all 18 holes while making seven birdies – four being back-to-back on Holes 14, 15, 16, and 17. Schell's second round score of 65 (-7) launched him up the individual leaderboard to first place as he has a two-stroke lead for the title. The next day in the final round, Schell put in three birdies and an eagle to claim the honor by three strokes at 9-under overall.
Schell has had an impressive spring semester for the Rebels, as he earned a tied for 2nd place finish at the Cabo Collegiate. Schell led the field in birdies, carding 18. From his first round to his final round, he managed to rise 46 spots on the leaderboard. His tied-for 2nd finish at 5-under overall helped Ole Miss finish 2nd among the 15-team field. Of the 15 teams, 13 teams were ranked in the top 50.
This is the junior's first SEC Player of the Week honor in his career. Schell and the Rebels return to action April 3-4 for the Mossy Oak Invitational in West Point, Mississippi.
