Gabrielsen Grabs Wins in Doubles and Singles
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis were downed 6-1 by South Carolina on Friday. However, Lillian Gabrielsen had a day with wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles.
Ole Miss (8-7, 2-5 SEC) could not get past South Carolina (9-6, 4-2 SEC) in doubles, going down 1-0 early. Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize fought to keep the Rebels in the mix with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. Both seniors earned their 10th overall doubles win of the season.
Unfortunately, the Rebels were unable to turn things around in singles. The team fell at the fourth, second, and first positions. Despite the Gamecocks sealing the match with a 4-0 start, that didn't stop Gabrielsen from finishing her day strong. The Olso, Norway, native took control in the first set with a 6-2 victory. She came up short in a 7-5 second set but dominated in a 10-2 third-set super tiebreaker.
No. 5 and No. 6 singles also won their first sets and went to a third; however, their matches ended in losses
The Rebels play again Sunday in Oxford against No. 19 Florida, starting at 1 p.m. CT.
