Men’s Golf Puts in 7-Under Second Round Score at Mason Rudolph Championship

4/11/2023 | Men's Golf

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Moving day was a success for No. 20 Ole Miss men's golf as it rose three spots on the leaderboard to finish the day tied for 5th place at 1-under overall. Two Rebels sit in the top-15 heading into the final round.

The Rebels put in 21 birdies through the second round with four Rebels securing par or better rounds. At the turn, Ole Miss was shooting even for the day, but the Rebels made a push in the back nine to finish with a 7-under performance.

"Today was a good step in the right direction for us," head coach Chris Malloy said. "We got off to a rough start but were able to turn it around and post a good score. Tomorrow we need to get off to a better start and give ourselves a chance at finishing this tournament off right and getting some confidence moving into our SEC Championship."

Sarut Vongchaisit had a hot round on the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course as he grabbed his fifth round in the 60s for the season. The senior shot a 2-under front nine and kept his momentum going, grabbing a 4-under bogey-free back nine. Vongchaisit sank seven birdies, two being back-to-back on his final two holes of the day, to earn a 65 (-6) round score and be tied for 2nd place with a six-stroke deficit for the lead.

Kye Meeks, competing individually, had another steady day on the course. Meeks chipped in four birdies throughout his round and finished even for the day. The redshirt sophomore is tied for 14th at 2-under overall.

Hugo Townsend had a balanced second round, securing a 1-under-par score. Townsend knocked in two pairs of back-to-back birdies throughout the second day of competition. The graduate transfer sits tied for 25th going into the final round.

Two Rebels, Brett Schell and Patton Samuels, are tied for 30th place. Schell secured a 2-under bogey-free back nine, while Samuels went back and forth throughout the day. Both Rebels shot even scores in the second round.

Cameron Tankersley ended his second day at the Mason Rudolph Championship with a 5-over round score.
