Rebels Look to Bounce Back Sunday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Ole Miss softball was unable to dig itself out of an early five-run deficit, dropping the series opener at Missouri 8-3 Saturday afternoon at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.
The Rebels (24-19, 3-10 SEC) had opportunities to score, stranding nine runners on base, but two big innings were all the Tigers (25-18, 4-12 SEC) needed.
Ole Miss threatened in the first two innings but couldn't cash in. Jalia Lassiter doubled in the first and was stranded on third, and the Rebels left the bases loaded in the second.
Missouri took advantage of a miscue to get on the board in the second inning. An RBI double gave the Tigers a two-run lead before a three-run home run made it 5-0. Missouri added three runs in the third on a pair of hits, pushing the lead to eight.
Looking to climb back into the game, the Rebels loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but Missouri was able to escape the threat again. Nonetheless, Ole Miss continued to battle. Keila Kamoku hit her third home run of the week, blasting a three-run shot to left-center in the fifth.
Furbsuh kept the Mizzou offense at bay in the fifth and sixth inning, retiring the side in order. Unfortunately, Ole Miss couldn't climb back into the game, falling 8-3.
The Rebels will look to bounce back and even the series on Sunday at 3 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
