Freshman Tankersley Continues to Lead for Rebels Tied for 7th

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped its second round of competition at the Sea Island Golf Club with a round score of 286 (+6). Ole Miss will look to the final round of stroke play to make the cut with an overall score of 561 (+1) and in 9th place.

The Rebels are just one-stroke shy of the day three cut. The top eight teams in stroke play will qualify to continue competition in match play format in the SEC Championship.

"Unfortunately, we made too many mental mistakes and our execution was just a little off all day," said head coach Chris Malloy. "Each of these guys is playing really good golf right now and there is no reason for us to shoot over par out here. These guys will have a bad taste in their mouths and be ready to compete tomorrow morning."

Two Rebels sit in the top 20 after their day two performances. Cameron Tankersley remains to hold strong as he secured an even-round score for the day. Tankersley came back from two early bogies with birdies on Holes 7 and 10, while maintaining a steady bogey-free back nine to continue his debut at the SEC Championship in the top 10. The freshman will head into his final round of stroke play tied for 7th at 3-under overall.

Sarut Vongchaisit made three birdies throughout his second round to give him a 69 (-1) round score. Vongchaisit's 1-under second round advanced him six spots on the leaderboard to put him tied for 17th at 2-under overall.

Hugo Townsend struggled at Sea Island during his second round, shooting 4-over for the day. The graduate transfer is tied for 39th at 2-over overall. Patton Samuels shot a round score of 73 (+3) and is tied for 49th at 4-over overall.

Brett Schell made his debut on the week for the Rebels, replacing redshirt-sophomore Kye Meeks in the team's lineup for round two. Schell finished his opening round of play with a scorecard of 75 (+5).
