Track and Field Wins Three Events on Day Two of Virginia Challenge

Van Aiken’s Heptathlon Score is Seventh in Ole Miss History
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The men's and women's teams showed their endurance with five top-five finishes in events with a distance of 800 meters or greater. Aryonna Augustine qualified for the 100-meter dash final and placed sixth overall.
Sara Van Aiken wrapped up her final three heptathlon events, besting personal records in all of them. In the first event of the day, the long jump, she placed ninth with a distance of 5.62 meters. The senior finished first in javelin, tossing it 38.46 meters for 638 points. She ended the heptathlon with a 10th-place finish in the 800-meter. Van Aiken compiled a total a personal best score of 5278 points, which was good for eighth place. It also moved Van Aiken up in the Ole Miss record books as the seventh highest heptathlon score.
Early in the day, Augustine competed in the 100-meter dash prelims—the senior finished in seventh, clocking an 11.50 to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Augustine finished sixth, running a season-best 11.59.
The men and women's teams excelled in the long-distance races and pole vault. Ole Miss women's track saw top-5 finishes in the 1500-meter invite, 3000-meter steeple invite, and the 5000-meter invite. Loral's win highlighted the group with a second-place finish in the 1500-meter invite, clocking in at 4:16.11.
Kristel Van Den Berg placed fourth in the 3000-meter steeple invite with a time of 10:26.37, and Ryann Helmers placed fifth with a season-best 15:21.99 in the 5000-meter invite. Hannah Ielfield was in the top 10 of the 3000-meter steeple chance after breaking a personal record time of 10:44.74.
Ole Miss men's track grabbed two first-place finishes in the 800-meter invite and 1500-meter invite. Baylor Franklin ran a time of 1:47.21, which is a season-best for the senior. In the 3000-meter steeple invite, Anthony Camereiri broke a personal best with a 3:38.34, which was good for first place. Dalton Hengst finished in 10th as he also ran a personal best time of 3:42.09.
The men's team also performed well in pole vault, with two players in the top 10 in both pole vault and the pole vault invite. In pole vault, Mile Walden past a career-best, jumping over the 5.10-meter bar. Frankie Amore was seventh after clearing 4.90 meters. In pole vault invite, Noah Mumme took first place, tying his personal record set during the indoor season of 5.30 meters. Logan Kelly placed sixth at the 5.00-meter mark.
After a great day in the hammer on Thursday, the women continued their success in the discus. Tedreauna three 50.26 meters, putting her in fifth place overall. Shey Taiwo was just a little behind, throwing a season-best 48.69 meters for seventh place. Jasmine Mitchell came in 15th place after throwing 46.30 meters.
The track and field team will begin the third and final day at the Virginia Challenge tomorrow, April 22, beginning at 12 .m. ET with the women's 100-meter hurdles and the women's high jump invite.
