OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE NET
Texas A&M
The Aggies are 21-1 overall and 13-1 against ranked opponents, with their lone loss being against No. 1 North Carolina, which is why they are ranked the second-best team in the nation. Texas A&M's roster comprises seven ranked singles players and four ranked doubles pairings. However, the team is led by two underclassmen, Mary Stoiana and Mia Kupres. Stoiana has not lost a step since her stellar freshman campaign. The sophomore is ranked second in singles because of her 29-4 record and ranked three times in doubles with a 19-2 record. Carson Branstine joins Stoiana as the third-ranked doubles pairing in the nation, going 9-0. Branstine is also ranked No. 55 in singles. In her first season, Kupres has compiled a 16-1 singles record which has her ranked No. 50, and a 10-3 doubles record. The team looks to continue its 13-match win streak as the regular season is nearing its end.
LSU
The Tigers have gone through the gauntlet of the SEC with a 2-7 record to show for it and a 9-8 overall record, currently on a four-match losing streak, mainly due to playing three top-15 teams in No. 12 Auburn, No. 5 Georgia, and No. 15 Tennessee. The record doesn't show how competitive LSU has been in every match.
A young redshirt freshman and key transfer are significant reasons for the Tigers' success and close matches against some of the country's best teams. The 22nd-ranked Anastasiya Komar has exploded onto the scene with a 19-4 singles record, including a 12-2 record at No. 1 singles. Komar is also ranked twice in doubles. She is a part of the seventh-best doubles pairing with Kylie Collins, a transfer from Texas. As a doubles team, Komar and Collins are 6-0. Collins in singles is 10-11, which has her ranked No. 31 in the nation. LSU also sports the 43rd-best doubles team with Komar and Nikita Vishwase, who are 19-4 this season, and the 72nd-best doubles team with Safiya and Noor Carrington. Having gone through the most challenging part of their schedule, the Tigers look to end strong, playing three teams in the bottom half of the SEC standings.
REBS IN THE RANKINGS
After climbing up 31 spots to No. 62, Kareisova dropped seven spots to No. 69 in the ITA Singles Rankings, announced on April 4. The Czechia native lost her first SEC singles match but is still 6-1 during conference action. Kareisova is 15-8 overall in singles and has a 6-3 record against ranked opponents. Ole Miss as a team also remains in the rankings at No. 74.
END OF THE ROAD
The Rebels are coming two-straight road victories after a tough start. Ole Miss got the monkey off their backs, defeating Missouri, 5-2, for its first away win. The team backed it up with another win away from home two weeks later, sweeping Mississippi State 4-0. The Rebels looked to keep the momentum going as they finish their road regular season schedule with matches at Texas A&M and LSU on Friday and Sunday.
LIL AND KELS
The senior duo of Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize is a strong No. 2 doubles pairing. Together, they are 10-6 overall, 8-3 in dual doubles, and 4-3 in the conference. On March 26 against Florida, the pairing took down the 60th-ranked doubles team in the nation, Carly Briggs and Rachel Gailis, by a score of 6-4. It marked the Rebels first ranked doubles win of the season. The doubles team also holds a three-match win streak and set to play at No. 1 singles against Texas A&M and LSU.
KETTE MAKES RANK
Kette grabbed her first career ranked singles win in the sweep over Mississippi State on March 31. The freshman defeated No. 117 Maria Rizzolo, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. The win also marked the first-year player's 10th singles win as a Rebel. She also started Ole Miss off strong with a 7-6(6) doubles victory, making her 7-7 on the year.
FRESHMAN SINGLES SUCCESS
The Rebels have seen dual singles success from their first-year players over the last three seasons. Two years ago, Reka Zadori came onto the scene, with the now junior going 9-4 from either the No. 5 or No. 6 position.
Last season was the same with three freshmen in Ludmila Kareisova, Rachel Krzyzak and Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher. Kareisova started 0-2 before going 10-8. Krzyzak and Leclercq-Ficher started 3-1 in their first four finished matches. Leclercq-Ficher, at one point, was 6-2, then ended 8-5. Krzyzak finished the year with a team-leading 13-6 dual singles record.
In 2023, Emma Kette is off to a 10-5 start and looks to continue the trend.
