Crorken Scores, Closes Men’s Competition for Track & Field at NCAA Outdoor

6/9/2023 | Track and Field

AUSTIN, Texas – Ole Miss track & field senior Tiarnan Crorken added a point for the Rebels with a scoring performance in the 800-meter final, closing out men's competition at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday night.

Crorken finished eighth in the 800-meter final at a collegiate best time of 1:46.81, improving upon his previous best of 1:46.82 run on the same track at the Texas Relays back on March 30. The final ended up blisteringly fast despite the lingering late-night heat, with the top three all under 1:46 – led by winner, Georgia freshman Will Sumner, at a facility record 1:44.26.

That NCAA point is the seventh of Crorken's brief but brilliant two-year career with the Rebels, during which he has been a key figure of the powerful Ole Miss middle distance squad. All told, Crorken ends his college career as a three-time All-American – all first-team honors – an NCAA runner-up indoors this past season on the Rebel distance medley relay, a Penn Relays champion this season in the 4x800-meter relay and the 2023 SEC Outdoor bronze medalist in the 800-meter – ending with 12 career SEC points scored. On the all-time charts at Ole Miss, Crorken's 800-meter PR tonight ranks No. 5, and his indoor best of 1:47.39 also ranks No. 5 in school history.

With men's competition now done in Austin, that leaves the final day for the women on Saturday – featuring a primetime double attempt for star senior McKenzie Long in the 100-meter (8:52 p.m. CT) and 200-meter (9:37 p.m. CT) dashes. Both races will air live on ESPN2, with the broadcast beginning at 8 p.m. CT.
