Soccer Takes Down Lions With Flurry of Early Goals

Kemp, Cloud, and Brady Score in Win
OXFORD, Miss. – A lightning delay couldn't slow down Ole Miss soccer (2-1-0) Saturday night as they scored a season-high three goals in a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana (1-2-0).
Five different Rebels were credited with points as Jenna Kemp, Hailey Cloud, and Kelly Brady all scored and Lauren Montgomery and Hattie Patterson dished out assists. Shu Ohba made four saves and allowed just one goal in her second win of the season.
Ole Miss outshot SLU 20-8, putting 12 of their shots on goal. The Rebels also took 12 corner kicks in the match while not allowing a single one to be taken by the opposition.
The Rebels wasted no time in this one, scoring all three of their goals in the first 21 minutes of play. Kemp netted the first one in the fifth minute as she placed a small corner kick at the feet of Montgomery who passed it right back to Kemp. The senior dribbled into the box and slotted her first goal of the season in the bottom right corner of the goal.
Less than a minute later, a rebound off a set piece found its way to the feet of Cloud at the top of the box who then wound up and drove one right down the middle, through traffic, and into the net.
In the 21st minute, Patterson sent a long ball from behind the center line just past Brady who tracked it down just inside the box and drove it home on the right side to make it 3-0 Rebels.
With just under 15 minutes left to play in the opening half, the match would go into a lightning delay due to weather in the area. After over an hour, play would resume, and Ole Miss would go into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The Rebels allowed just three shots in the second half, but one off the foot of Mya Guillory in the 70th minute would end up in the back of the net to erase the shutout. Ohba made two more saves before the match ended, keeping the Rebels on top and securing the victory.
