Rebels Leave Rocky Top in 2nd Place with Four Rebels in Top 15

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Leaving nothing behind, No. 24 Ole Miss men's golf went out with a bang at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate, shooting 262 (-18) in the final round and finishing in 2nd place at 816 (-24) overall.

The 262 round score writes the 2023-24 Rebels in the record books as the lowest single-round total in program history, previously set last season at the 2022 SEC Fall Preview when Ole Miss shot a 268 round.

The 18-under final round posted by the Rebels was the best round of the weekend out of the 14-team field. With the successful third round, Ole Miss nearly closed a 16-stroke gap, finishing one shot behind the tournament champions Tennessee.

Overall, Ole Miss led the field in par 4 (-14) and par 5 (-13) scoring while boasting 50 birdies and two eagles for the weekend.

"What these guys did out here today was incredible," said head coach Chris Malloy. "We know that we had left too many stokes out there the first two days with simple mistakes. I challenged them after our round yesterday to dial up their wedge game and gain a little confidence putting. They came out of the gates strong but how they finished the round was one of the more impressive things that I have seen in a long time. We certainly have some momentum to build on heading into our next tournament. To have a day like today with four sophomores in the lineup was also very impressive."

Earning a career-best finish at tied for 2nd and a career-low round in his first tournament as a Rebel was Michael La Sasso. The sophomore played perfect golf for his final day in Knoxville, boasting a bogey-free 18 holes while adding an impressive seven birdies. La Sasso's 63 (-7) round ties fellow teammate Cameron Tankersley for the lowest individual single-round score in program history.

Another Rebel with a career-best finish was Tom Fischer, who placed tied for 8th – his first top-10 finish of his career. Fischer played steady golf in his final round, going bogey-free for 15 straight holes and finishing even for the day. With Fischer's even score, he earned a 4-under overall score.

Tim Tillmanns achieved a bogey-free front nine and added on four birdies to begin his Ole Miss career with a tied for 10th finish at 3-under overall. This marks Tillmanns 14th career top 10 finish.

Cameron Tankersley left nothing behind in his third round, making five birdies and an eagle to grab an impressive 64 (-6) round. Tankersley's 6-under round launched him up 20 spots on the leaderboard to give him a tied for 12th finish; the seventh top-20 finish in the sophomore's career.

Patton Samuels put in his best round of the weekend on Sunday, going bogey-free for 16 consecutive holes. Samuels' four birdies of the day gave him a 67 (-3) edge to finish tied for 23rd, 13 spots where he previously sat after Round 2.

Competing individually, Kye Meeks made four birdies throughout his final round to give him his best round of the tournament at 69 (-1). Meeks wrapped his time in Knoxville tied for 34th.

Following play on the Tennessee National Course, the Rebels will begin preparing for the SEC Fall Preview (Sept. 25-27) in Birmingham, Alabama. The event will be a three-day tournament played at the Birmingham Country Club.
