Cross Country Hits Road for Early Test at Southern Showcase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country will hit the road for Alabama for an early-morning pair of races at the Southern Showcase, hosted by Jacksonville State at John Hunt Park on Friday.
This will be the first big test of the season for both Rebel squads, which will be nearly at full strength to go against a large field that includes a handful of SEC teams – including nationally ranked Alabama. The Ole Miss men are receiving votes in the preseason USTFCCCA National Coaches poll, and this week will feature the debuts of big-name transfers Toby Gillen (Saint Louis), Cruz Gomez (Texas) and Jack Meijer (Wisconsin). It will also be the debuts for returning Rebels Aiden Britt, Cole Bullock, Landen McNair and Chase Rose. Gabe Scales, who led Ole Miss with a fifth-place finish in the 4-mile at the Memphis Twilight two weeks ago, will be in action again on Friday.
The Ole Miss women, fresh off a third-place team finish at the Memphis Twilight, will also feature its share of season debuts. Beth Arentz, Sophie Baumann, Skylar Boogerd, Hannah Ielfield, Jo-Lauren Keane, Jocelyn Long, Frances Luna, Kristel van den Berg and Loral Winn will open their season in Huntsville on Friday, and will be joined by the five Rebels who led that third-place finish in Memphis last week in Adie Luna, Samantha Ouellette, Brooke Preputnick, Ella Rodwell and Sarah Schiffmann.
Competition begins at 7:30 a.m. CT on Friday morning with the men's 8K, followed by the women's 5K at 8:30 a.m. CT. Fans can watch via a live stream HERE.
