Track & Field’s Jalani Davis Named SEC Field Athlete of the Week
1/30/2024 | Track and Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field All-American senior and reigning NCAA Champion Jalani Davis has been named the SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Davis finished runner-up in both the shot put and weight throw at Arkansas' Razorback Invitational last week, highlighted by her SEC-leading 18.00m/59-00.75 in the shot put. That mark, her fourth career 18-meter toss, also currently ranks No. 3 in the NCAA, No. 4 in the United States and No. 14 worldwide this season.
Davis was also the top collegian in the weight throw in second place at 23.79m/78-00.75, her 15th career 23-meter throw to rank her fourth in collegiate history. She is the lone thrower worldwide this season beyond both 24 meters in the weight throw and 18 meters in the shot put, as well as the only thrower in collegiate history with at least four career throws beyond 24 meters in the weight throw (5) and 18 meters in the shot put across both indoor and outdoor (4).
Ole Miss is off this week before splitting three ways the weekend of Feb. 9-10, with a Rebel delegation returning to Arkansas for the Tyson Invitational while two other groups set out separately for Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge and Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invite.
