Rifle Claims First Victory of the Season Over Akron

MURRAY, Ky. – The No. 6 Ole Miss rifle team claimed its first victory of the season after downing No. 12 Akron, 4702-4694 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Ky., on Saturday.
Ole Miss (1-0, 0-0 PRC) had the advantage in both smallbore and air rifle, and outdid Akron (3-1, 0-0 GARC) 303-280 in center shots.
Lea Horvath and Gracie Dinh led the Rebels in aggregate scores, notching the top-two placements for the day. Four Rebels made their first collegiate appearances.
With the win, Ole Miss improved to 7-4 all-time against Akron.
The match started with smallbore, where the Rebels opened with a strong 2342 performance. Four Rebels scored more than 586 points in the event, two of which were freshmen.
Dinh scored a match-high 590 in her first collegiate appearance. The freshman countered with 36 center shots, including a pair of 196 scores while kneeling and standing.
Dinh's fellow freshman, Jordan de Jesus, scored the second-most points in the event with 588 and a team-leading 42 center shots. De Jesus scored a perfect 200 while in the prone position.
All-American Emma Pereira also tabbed a 200 in prone. Pereira countered with 588 in the event, tying de Jesus for the second-most points in smallbore
M'Leah Lambdin opened the match strong with a 199-point performance in the kneeling position. It ties an Ole Miss smallbore record while kneeling.
The Rebels then turned their attention to air rifle. Ole Miss outscored Akron once again, this time with 2360 points.
Horvath fought against Akron's Gavin Perkowski for the top spot in the event, with Horvath emerging on top. The fifth-year senior fired a stellar 598 in the event, her personal highest since the 2022-23 season. She hit 52 centers, the most in the field by five.
Dinh's impressive debut finished with the second-most center shots in air rifle with 47, scoring 591. In her first collegiate match, Claudia Muzik earned a spot as a counter. The freshman finished with a 590, which tied for sixth for air rifle.
In total, four Rebels scored 590 or more in air rifle.
Akron's Perkowski and Lex Kirk led the Zips in aggregate scores, scoring 1178 and 1180, respectively. Perkowski finished with a 596 in air rifle, good enough for the second most in the event, while Kirk found success in smallbore, scoring 587.
Ole Miss stays in Kentucky for a match against No. 9 Murray State on Sunday. The match starts at 9 a.m.
